Show F V Y IT November 19 1999 The Summit County Bee Subscribe 1 o (Ihe (Bee I Red Ribbon Week Veterans Rewarded at North Summit Student Writers: Danny Robinson and Rosilyn Petersen On Monday. Nov. I. North Summit High Schuol kicked off Red Ribbon Week. Each student was given a red ribbon with purple writing that symbolizes a drug and violence free school raising awareness of the drug free life. The ribbons were numbered and at the start of each class hour, a number was drawn out of a bucket and called over the intercom. The lucky student with that number would receive a prize. This process went on all week long. At the end of the week, the Student Council put on a drug free assembly with the theme of the game show The Price is Right". A number would be drawn and called and the student with that number Vwld go up on stage and participate in iftb game. The winner would then receive a prize. Overall. Red Ribbon Week was a success, and we look forward to it next year. Over fifty veterans attended the assembly at North Summit High School honoring the veterans of our nation on Nov. II. North Summit students sat quietly as the assembly began with Mr. I .any Vernon, a retired Air Force OfTicer, telling students about the of the use and presentation American Flag. The colors were then presented by the Noah Summit Esonas. Mr. Dean Winters talked about his hemic war experiences in World War II as a Marine. Mr. W'intcrs. a former Noah Summit area resident, now lives in Salt Lake City. We appreciate him Sponsors Turkey Shoot FFA The North Summit FFA Chapter is holding its annual Turkey shoot Saturday, Nov. 20. at the Road Shed in Echo. The Shoot will staa at 9 a.m. and will goto noon. There will be several contests in which you can paaicipate in trap shooting, pistol bowling and target shooting. The trap shoot will be open to all gauges of guns, the target shoot is restricted too .22 caliber types of pistols. There will be turkeys given out to the first and second placed panic-ipunts As pan of our drug awareness week here at North Summit High School, an assembly was presented by Mr. Bob McCannon from the New Mexico Media Literacy Awareness Project. Rodeo athletes will again resume the rodeo season in the spring. They will continue to accumulate points for the State Finals.
