Ladycats Defeat Ladycats Have No The Winged Lions Mercy on Cowboys Student Writer: Matt Jackson and down the field against the Bulldogs. But the Wildcat's defense was the star of the game, only giving up minimal yardage to the Bulldogs and never allowing a single serve. IS, to watch the Wildcats play the Gunnison Bulldogs for their last region home game of the season. Before the game started the football team's seniors and their parents were honored. These are this years seniors; Ethan Atkinson, Curtis Cox, Joey Edmunds, Dal Holman, CAiy Matt Jackson, Ryan Howick, Johnson, Jarin Leavitt. Casey Lewis, Curtis McEntire, Bridger Miles. Dustin Pypcr. Anthony Sandoval, Trevor Rezac, Carl Tresner, Aaron Westerman, Bradey Wilson, and Brandon Yost. This strong senior class is one of the main reasons the team's record is seven and one, along with a great coaching staff, great support, and a good junior class backing up the seniors. From the opening kickoff it was apparent that the Wildcats came ready to play ball. They opened the sewing with a field goal kicked by Curtis McEntire. The Wildcat's offense was calm and crisp scoring on the next drive with a short pass to Jarin from Quarto back Joey Edmunds. With both a passing and running attack, the Wildcats do we the ball up interceptions. The first one by Casey Lewis, and the other by Audy Smoot. However, the biggest play for the defense was probably the 54 yard punt return by Jarin Leavitt in the fourth quarter, making the final serve 30 to 0 for the Wildcats. The Wildcats end their season against the Wasps of Juab in Nephi on October 21, 1999. Because of their winning record, they are guaranteed a first round playoff game at home. That game will be held on Saturday. Oct. 30. The time of the game and the opponent won't be determined until after Thursday's . game. Plan on being at the game on Saturday as the Cats take their first step back to the championship game. Turn Up The Heat, Ladycats Are Quite The Treat Student Writer: Becky Dees Student Writer: Lindsey Crystal Tuesday, the 12th, the Ladycats traveled to Rowland Hall to play against the Winged Lions. The team knew the pressure was on because they wanted to finish first in their division. The L'ions were just as determined to upset the Ladycats. The Ladycats started out the night with the JV taking the floor because Rowland Hall does not have a freshman team. Once on the court you could see the determination in their eyes. They were ready to play mentally and physically. They first game was a good battle. The Lions put up a good fight, but the Ladycats were able to pull ahead and win the game 15 to 7. During the second game the ladycats came out on the floor confident and ready to play. Because of their confidence they won the second game 15 to 5. At 7 p.m.. the Varsity team took On the floor. They knew they had a tough game ahead of them, but they too were prepared mentally and physically. They first game against Rowland Hall was a very close game, but in the end the Ladycats pulled the game off 15 to 12. When the Ladycats took the floor for the second game they knew they had to be more focused. They played a tough game but Rowland Hall pulled off the win in the second game. With their hearts a little broken the Ladycats took the floor for the third and final game of the night. This game was not as difficult as the second. The Ladycats played with all their heart and ended up winning 15 to 12. This year the Ladycats have done very well and as they head into region and state they would like to have the support of everyone. They would like to invite you to watch and cheer them on in hopes to ,play in state game. Student Writer: Kelsey Allred Ladycat Volleyball team their last region home game played Oct 15, against the Thursday, Grantsville Cowboys. Overall the Ladycats did well. Freshman, JV and Varsity all won. It only took the freshman two games to beat Grantsville. Bambi Jorgenson helped out with some killer serves, Brandi Lewis had 'some awesome hits and Kristen McNeil had some great digs. The JV game was close, but South Summit pulled it off, winning in three games. Tasia Woolstenhulme had some great hits and Sheena Bigelow had some incredible blocks. The Varsity took out the Cowboys easily in two games. In the first game the seniors took charge and The second won the game 15-The 6. Subscribe To The Summit game took a little' longer than the first, but the Ladycats ended up on top with a score of 15-- The hitters, Natalie Merchant, Becky Dees, Leah Tapp and Ashley Simpson had tons of awesome kills that helped the Cats pull out a victory. The team had consistent serving and was digging up everything the Cowboys could throw out. Before the Varsity games started, the seniors and their parents were honored. The seniors for the 1999 volleyball season were Becky Dees, Brittany Cummings, Stephanie Padfield, and Lindsey Crystal. All four of them have played volleyball all four years of their high school careers. The Ladycats ended the season with a 0 record. The team has been working hard attending camps throughout the summer. The hard work paid off as the Ladycats took first at the University of Utah Summer Camp. Once the season started they took first at their Ladycat Tournament and second at the Millard High Tournament. The team consists of fifteen hard working dedicated teenage girls. Brandi laiwis and Sarah Parker are the tieshmen for the team. The Iaidycats head into region fjc-in- g the North Sevier Wolves for their first game. They then go dow n to North Sevier ftw the Region tournament on Friday Oct. 22. Next, the Ladycats venture onto State in hopes of a State Title. Another Wildcat Victory Student Wi iter: Christine Johanson Wildcats, what's you cry?! V 1 C - T-- O - R - Y! Yes, victory was the cry for the Wildcats in their past Juan Diego JV game. With yet another win for the Wildcats, our JV has once again proved that South Summit High is the best. Their triumph started at 12:30 when the players boarded the bus for their away game, and it continued -- -- until the game's end. Within the first half their game the score was a shut out of 21 to 0 (Wildcats). Knowing that they would certainly lixise. Juan Diego put forth a valiant effort to try and save the game. Their effort, however, was in vain, and the score ended as 28 to 2 1 (Wildcats). With this last victory, the JV ends their season, but they continue to prepare for next year, when the JV players will become our South Summit's winning Varsity. Cats Bite Dogs Student Writer: Anthony Sandoval On Thursday, OcL 14, the Wildcat Football Team went to Gunnison High School. While there, the Cats beat the Bulldogs in a great game of football. The final score turned out to be 24-1- 4 in favor of the Wildcats. Junior Travis Miller was the Cat quarterback leading the team to victory. The Cats played well on both sides of the ball. The offense was able to score multiple touchdowns and the defense kept the Bulldogs pinned.
