Weller reminded the board they had to take some action to resolve safety concerns raised by Woolstenhulme. "We have to do something," he asserted. So Maxfield tried again. Given growth projections currently in place, Woolstenhulme was asked by the board to estimate the number of school buses needed in coming years for the elementary school. He said, "This is purely a SWAG, but I would say probably seven." (What's a "SWAG," you wonder? That would be a "Sophisticated Wide Angle Guess," according to Woolstenhulme.) Steering Committee Weller proffered an expression of commendation for the establishment of the recently organized steering committee comprised of parents, teachers, with a board member and the superintendent. His comments were echoed by other board members who characterized the committee as "constructive" and 675 Iron Horse Or. Park City decisions that are not always popular with everyone. The committee meets Dec. 18 to formulate its agenda for the next public steering committee meeting on Jan. 4. Following the education summit Nov. 30, Norm Hyatt, the outside consultant who authored the district's Capital Improvement Plan, said in an unsolicited memorandum to Littleford, This was the very best such meeting I've been involved in over my more than 45 years of working in public education." Hyatt continued, "I've seen some interesting 'donnybrooks' and some that made me shudder, but at the opposite end of the continuum was last night's meeting. He observed, "Without getting into a philosophical discussion about the perception of Title 1 funding being a dole or a federal government handout, we have .historically had only 7 percent response from families in the dis13-1- trict," he said. "I suspect there are many more who might qualify for these funds." According to Littleford, "In other school districts as many as 40-4- 5 percent qualify. Culturally in this community, we seem to have rejected the assistance that would otherwise help us reduce our annua operating loss of $22,000 in our school lunch program. We are required to offer school meals, but we operate at a loss for lack of funding." He continued, "We know there are students who are suffering in the classroom too, only because we haven't been able to sustain these Title 1 funds to hire teacher assistants due to the low registration response. When questioned about the registration procedure, Littleford explained, "At the beginning of each school year we send home the Title 1 forms. All parents need to do is fill in the forms, accompanied by W-- 2 forms, and return diem to us. The responses are kept strictly confidential as mandated by law." "I just hope all the parents realize there is still a lot of work to be done on this and other subjects. It's one thing to talk about it, but we need to take action now with our recommendations to the board, so we can establish the right policy," she said. Jim Bradley, a parent in the audience, confirmed Powell's statements by stating, "Dr. Powell has been very helpful to us in arranging our son's schedule so he now has math all year. We appreciate what he has been able to accomplish." Another parent, Jeni Holzapfel, favored the trimester format because of longer class periods. "I think the children learn more in a longer class." An abnormal rhythm, or arrythmia, usually starts somewhere other than the normal pacemaker cells in the heart. Arrythmias may be caused by disease or injury to the heart or elsewhere in the body, by drugs such as caffeine and by anxiety or nervousness. Arrythmias may occur without any sensation at all and usually must be identified by recording the heart's activity on an electrocardiogram. Often, no special treatment is necessary to treat or prevent arrythmia.
