December 24. , : Christmas toys By Aldon Rachels Don Brokow, Roosevelt, isnt Santa Claus or one of his elves, but he is the next best thing as he is nuking toys through The Happy Factory3 where the items will be given to children in need and to the Christmas Spirit Connection. Ive made 35 little toys (cars, trucks, etc). I used power equipment to cut them out and also did the paint work. It took me about hours for each one. I just got started doing this as a member of ttie The Happy Factory, he said. Anyone who wants to donate labor or money can contact Don Brokaw at Route 2 Box 2033, Roosevelt, Utah 84066. Charles Cooley gave a talk to the Utah Motor Transport Association earlier this year and he said, Sometimes we forget we live in the Land of Plenty- -I think sometimes we also forget those who live in the Land of Nothing-especial- the little ly its 15 Group therapycan help braastcan-ce- r ' patients feel better, but it wont help them live longer, a study found. The study was set up to check a finding surprising reported by researchers in 1989: Patients who got support therapy in addition to their medical treatment lived an average of 18 months longer. This time, it didn't happen. The study, led by Dr. Pamela Goodwin of the University ofToronto, .was reported in the New England Journal of Medicine. mind-over-bo- oflawn ornaments, and then we found some toy patterns, made toys for all the neighborhood kids and ws just keep making toys. "Cooley gave some of his first toys to Primary Childrens Medical Center and later to the Shriners Hospital. The tqys are made from hard wood that is actually scrap wood from cabinet shops. We now have headquarters in Cedar City and 12 branches in seven Western States. We also have inquiries for a branch in Salt Lake City and one in Chihuahua, Mexico. All the branches pay their own overhead and no salaries are paid. 82,000 service hours have been donated from kindergarten through senior citizens. Wehave also used inmates from Youth and Adult Correctional facilities to make the toys. We have delivered more than 100,000 toys that have all over the world." Brokow began The Happy branch this year in Roosevelt The 158 women assigned to group therapy did not live any longer than the 77 who got only medical treatment, confirming two other recent studies. However, women in the therapy groups did report less pain andemotional distress especially if the levels were high to start with. chil- not their fault. . .We didnt start out to be The Happy Factory. The breast cancer death rale has been droppingsubstantially since the 1990s because of earlier detection and more effective treatments, he wrote in an accompanying editorial.
