December 24. 200 - Pane S 1 Ranchers recognized by Soil District for lifetime achievement Duchesne County ranchers Delbert Broadhead and Earl Wright were recently named as the recipients of the Lifetime Achievement award presented by the Duchesne County Soil Conservation District. The nominating committee selected the men for their distinguished service and commitment to their family, friends and communities. Delbert Broadhead, also known as Del by many friends and associates, was born Feb. 9, 1910 in Heber City to Tom and Barbra Ann TO BE MARRIED to be married in the Broadhead. At the age of three months the family moved to a ranch on the Duchesne River, about nine miles below Tabiona. At the age of five years, his father gave him his first Hereford calf as a start on a lifelongcareer in the ranching business. In about 1936 Del bought property adjoining his father's ranch. In 1937, he married Berncice Jackson in Heber City. Together with a team of horses and a lot of hard work they cleared the land of brush and river bottom to create one of the most beautiful ranches in the valley. Berneice always raised a plentiful garden and a clean house as well as helping Del in the fields or working cattle. Del took great pride in the quality of the cows he raised and always the horse he rode. His Ihorses didnt need papers but they had to have a lot of cow sense. He ran cattle on Blacktail Natasha Masters and Jody Sleight have chosen Dec. 29 Mt Timpanogos Temple. Masterssleijfa Natasha Masters, daughter of Ed and Lois Masters, and Jody Sleight, son of Lynn and Marie Sleight will be married in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple on Dec. 29. Natasha served a mission in the Seattle, Washington mission. She graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Human Development Jody served a mission in Nagoya, Japan. He graduated with Honors from Utah Valley State College. He earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Accounting and is continuing his STILL RANCHING Earl Wright has been a rancher for close to six decades. Earl lives on the same ranch in Utahn that his family homesteaded in the early 1900s. He was president of the Red Creek Cattle Association for about 30 years. He sold his permit and most of his cattle in 1986, but decided he wasnt quite ready to retire yet, just downsize. Del kept a sniull bunch of about 50 head of cattle, now Hereford, Angus or Tarentuise cross. He ran them on Biarktail in the summer and pas--' tured them on the ranch in the fall and winter months. Together Del and Berneice hod four children, three boysand one girl. Berneice passed away in 1998 alter 61 years of love and companionship together. Del has since sold the rest of his stock and ranch but nut his hones. He continues to live on the ranch he spent a lifetime building. Earl Wright started ranching in 1943 when he bought the family ranch in Utahn. The family ranch was homesteaded by liis father in the early 1900s along the Duchesne River. Each year Earl mude improvements such as, clearing trees and brush, leveling and developing terns. 1 le operated his ranch and leased another ranch nearby fur manyyears. Earl kept about 100 head of mother cows until he retired four years ago. He still has a few acres and a couple head of livestock to keep him busy.
