SCHOOLS Continued from page 1 projected to see a considerable enrollment decrease next year, The school, which has seen some cutbacks in the past, will lose 36 students with enrollment dropping from 511 to 475. Last year 261 students attended Altamont Elementary. Next year that number is projected to drop by 14 to 247. Duchesne Elementary u only projected to lose three students making their total enrollment 345. Neola Elementary's enrollment is expected to remain at 142 while Tabiona Elementarys enrollment is projected to decrease by six, to 71. One reason for the decrease in elementary enrollment may be attributed to kindergarten screening. Not every incoming kindergarten student has been screened, detailed Aland, adding that enrollment generally picks up at the beginningof the school year. In stark contrast with elementary projections, only one of the district's five secondary schools is projected to lose students. Aland commented that the growth in the districts secondary schools may be attributed to a bubble." It is likely that a wave of students is finally hitting high school age. Tabiona Highs enrollment of 89 last year is projected to decrease by three next year, totaling the schools enrollment at 86. The remaining secondary schools in the district are all projected to see an increase in enrollment. Altamont High will gain 12 students, topping their enrollment at 262. Duchesne High will also gain 12stu dents, which will bring the schools enrollment up from 259 to 271. Whiting Four Roosevelt Police officers who were placed on administrative leave following the July 6 gun fight with a man who threatened a woman with a rifle and then fired shots at officers, killing Police ChiefCecil Gurr, have been cleared by investigators. Officers Cody Lee, Lance Williamson, Bill Garza and Hemy McKenna were notified last Thursday by the Uintah County Attorneys office that they had been authorized to return to their regular patrol duties, said acting Roosevelt Police Chief Steve Hooley. Any time there is the use of deadly force officers involved are automatically placed on administrative (office) assignment only, he explained. "The Uintah County Attorneys office reviewed the evidence to make sure the use of deadly force was justified and appropriate under the circumstances and make sure their ac 1 tions complied with state and federal laws. While almost half of the Roosevelt Police force was on administrative leave, Hooley said Duchesne County Sheriffs deputies helped fill the shifts. "The sheriff Bent men over to handle our calls and its been an immense help." Hooley said Williamson is taking additional time off, but the other three officers have returned to their e duties. "We hope the community knows that we are back 100 percent, were dedicated and were walking taller, he said, adding that is what Chief Gurr would have expected ofhis men. "As police officers we would like to magnify his teachings, his respect and his knowledge. Were here for the city and will do everything weve always done.
