The team was honored at the 1998 Union Homecoming Game. Union clobbered Delta in the Claaa-title game, 30-- Quarterback Wilford Evans was credited by the media for his outstanding play. His mixture of calls kept the Delta defense guessing, unable to anticipate and thwart the play. Thirty-thre- e years later, Evana was back in town along with Gordon Woody Olsen, and took part in the coin toas for the Homecoming Game. Both recalled their championship days. Wilford Evana: The Delta Rabbits got slowed down. They came in undefeated, and coming into the game Union had just one tie to go along with zero losses. Gordon Woody" Olsen: I had a big gainer in the championship game on a crack-bac- k play, which was basically an inside reverse with good blocks. On the first play of the second quarter, Evana connected with end Dave Labium on a pattern to hit pay dirt for the first touchdown. Late in the third quarter Evana hit Olaen with a pass to put Union in scoring territory, and then Labrum scored on a screen paaa to make the final score er B 0. down-and-o- Hie Eagles will have a chance to measure their improvement in the game against Altamont High thia Friday on the Eagles field. I remem her beating Delta when they thought they were going to win. We blew right by them. It was the easiest game of the year for us. John Hullinger: Unfortunately I blew out my knee, and I couldnt play. I helped with the radio broadcast, which went to Roosevelt and Delta. Allan Frandsen: There had been 14 to 15 inches of snow, and the field at the University of Utah had to be cleaned off for the championship game. We had good first and second teams. I got into the game at the end. He responded with 15 tackles against South Summit including a ferocious touchdown saving tackle on an open field punt return. Troy plays offensive tackle on the other side ofthe ball.
