A low throw to first base put Morrill on the bag and sent home Jackson. Rasmussen was walked to load up the bases, and then Bo Gardner put the Bulldogs in the dog house when he tattooed a pitch for a double that scored three runs and put Union which had ahead for good at Provo saying, Rats, That Error Hurt! The Cougars added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for an 11-- 8 lead, and appeared to have breathing room going into the top of the seventh inning.
