Nearly half-4- 8 percent-o- f icans who are still working said they see retirement as "a chance for a new beginning. People aged 35 to 49 were most likely to take this view. This time of year the Planning Commission hears many requests for road upgrades and pavement. The planning commission prioritizes the road upgradejpavement re- quests for the current construction season. One must be aware, not all roads can be upgradedpaved during the year requested. Some must take a back seat and are reconsidered for the following year. The priority criteria is; How many full time residents reside along the road? Is the road a mail route? Is the road a school bus route? And when was the last road work completed? What the planning commission often hears in the way of complaint is "I pay thousands of dollars a year in property taxes, I deserve to have my road paved immediately. What the public might not be aware of is, out of every dollar paid in property taxes, the road department receives only 22 cents. Another typical request comes from persons living within subdivisions which may have several full time residents. Policy is, a subdivision must have been taxed aa residential and not as green belt fire at least five years prior to the planning commission giving consideration to any road upgradingpaving. All request forroad(a) upgrade which are turned down, the requesting party is notified in writing along with the reason for denial.
