August 10. 1993 - Page 15 Ballard couple collect honors at national pistol tourney in Ohio By Dee Throckmorton Kay and' JoAnne Parrish of Ballard recently competed in the National Pistol Championship Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio. They returned home with an assortment of prises and honors. . 1,047 of the countrys finest military and civilian bulls-eyshooters competed to determine who was the best in the land. When the last puff of the gun smoke drifted out over Lake Erie, the Uintah Basin couple had distinguished themselves. On the opening day of the five day event, Kay Parrish won the warm up match by shooting high with .22, centerfire, and AS caliber pistols. Four days later he emerged as the second place winner in the sharpshooter class of the entire three gun championship. Not to be outdone, JoAnne Parrish was declared the womens champion in the marksmens class and was in seventh place among all marksmen. The couple then joined Salt Lake City shooters, Brad Argentos, Greg Com and Matt Delong, to form the Utah Precision Marksmanship Society team. The Utah craw, coached by Frand Delong Masted their way to the undisputed Sharpshooter team title, ftum among a field of 32 teams. They bested their nearest competitors by 28 points. On the way to their big wins, the Parrishes won, or placed, in several other matches that wars part of the aggregate. The Pumpers from Roosevelt won the Mens B League Meet and Kchman Oil placed second. Fastening Systems out of Bountiful snared first in the Womens A League Tournament and Res Ball garnered second. Green Briar captured first place in the Womens B League Meet and Sweet Sensations III netted second. 6-- 8-- 10-1- 12-1- Inter-mounta- Doylenes team won the UBIC Sand Volleyball Tournament in the Coed 4 on 4 division. Tinas nabbed second and Setters third. Gators won the Ladies 3 cm 3 class, and D.B. Taylor garnered second. Doylenes placed third. Robert Russell won the bowling tourney and Rory Russell nabbed second. Hank Wopsock garnered third. Cody Moat won the 10K Fun Run with a time of 36 minutes 36 seconds. Kay Parrish, a Unichem employee, was happy about the wins, but was especially elated that they each won a berth on the USANRA civilian pistol team.
