Ive been active ally my life and a proponent of exercise. Several years ago I started doing isotonics, also known as resistance training, or strength training, along with aerobic exercise. Research is finally catching on to the benefits of incorporating these two forma of exercise, and I am glad. I would like others to benefit as I have. ' The benefits of isotonks are multiple. Fa one it builds up muade mass. Now, before you say "oh, I doit want big, bulging muscles," read on. Tufts University exercise physiologist Dr. Wiliam Evans says youd "need to work out five to six hours every single day rather than the hour to hour and a half per week QUEEN HONOR-L- ast thats recommended," to build up year's UBIC Queen Jenny West holds her portrait, which will be hung in the brand new Roosevelt City Complex. In addition, isotonics can' improve the ratio of "good" HDL cholesterol to "bad" LDL cholesterol, protecting against heart disease. It also increases bone density, protecting against fractures assod-ate- d with osteoporosis. And research at Tufts shows that it may oven help mitigate the effects of rheumatoid arthritis. Aerobks improve isotonic capacity and via versa. When you engage in any type of aerobic activity you are getting your muscles to wak for you and preparing them for isotonks. And when you build muscle through isotonics you are priming your body to perform better aerobics. The more muscle mass you have, the more oxygen you are able to take in and pump to your tissues to fuel movements. Aerobics and isotonks have a synergistic effect in malting you feel and look better. Aerobics bums fat, and isotonks tone and build muscle. The two together are an combinaunbeatable tion. But (and there is always one), you have to keep at it fa. life because the benefits of exercise cant be stored. However, after you get into the exercise mode, it does - body-beautif- ul become addictive. You feel good, you feel strong, you look good. You always want to foel that way. That is the motivation to keep you going. It is worth it It is also a tremendous stress reliever. I could go on and on about the benefits of aerobks bn combination with strength training. But I rather you talked with your physician and then start a program and see and foel the benefits for yourself. Happy exercising!! Beard announced the award of a $5,963,952 contract for modification of Meeks Cabin Dam on the Blacks Fak River in southwest Wyoming as part of Reclamations Safety of Dams program. The contract was awarded to Bauer of America Corporation of Waltham, Massachusetts. The modification consists iff construction of a concrete cutoff wall in the dams left abutment and foundation. The purpose of the cutoff wall is to prevent water from leaking through the dams abutment and foundation, whidi, if allowed to continue, would weaken the structure. Meeks Cabin Dam is located in Uinta County, about 3.2 kilometers (two miles) north of ths stats line and 35 kilometers (22 miles) southwest iff Fat Bridger, Wyoming. The dam was constructed as part of the Lyman Phqect between 1966 and 1971. The prqject regulates the flow iff Blacks Forit River for irrigation, fish and wildlife conservation and recreation. The seepage problem at Meeks Cabin Dun began during the initial filling of the reservoir in the spring of 1971. While a certain amount of seepage is normal and expected with all dams, indications of internal erosion of materials related to the seepage areas have became increasingly evident To determine the extent of the erosion and to evaluate its origin and migration patter. Reclamation has continuously collected and measured the seepage flows as part of evaluations under the Safety iff Dams Program. A significant amount of instrumentation has been installed and used to monitor seepage through the left abutment of tiie dam.
