Organised on a statewide effort this year, the Scouting for Food will involve Cuba, Scouts, Explorers and Varsity Scouts during the week of Nov. 12 to 19. Hie program seeks to ease the food problem for more than 20 million Americans who go hungry at some time each month. Directed by local chairmen. Scouts will distribute bags to individual homes during the week of Nov. 12. the bags of food will be taken to a central location where they will be inventoried and distributed to the Duchesne County Food Pantry. It requested that food be iGriUfcn commercially canned or packaged items only (no homemade bottled n food), and nothing perishable, or in glass. Suggested items for donation include soups, beef stew, chili, canned fish, canned meats of any kind, canned vegetables, canned fruit, crackers, mixes of all types and packaged cookies. Hie Duchesne County Food Pantry reports that they have plenty of clothing; but are short on food. So the request is for food items only. Also participating in the Scouting for Food is the Utah National Guard and Utah Power and Light. Poster contest rules for Great American Smokeout through twelfth All students of the Roosevelt schools an invited to participate in The Greet Americim Smokeout poster contest, sponsored by the Duchesne East Unit of the American Cancer Society. The smokeout Is a special day designated by the American Cancer Society (Thursday, November 17 this year), and devoted to encouraging smokers to give up smoking for 24 hours, in hopes that they will decide to discontinue smoking for good, and to promote the advantages of not smoking. The theme and related messages, as well as the date, may be incorporated into the poster, but thia is not required. MEDIUM-A- ny medium is acceptable (for example, painting; collage, print, crayon, chalk, pencil or ink), as long as it can be fitted onto a flat poster. Heavyweight paper or poster board is encouraged but not required. Entries may be matted, but this also ie not required. Framing is not THEME-Poat- ers acceptable.
