Show UINTAH BASIN STANDARD. Hospital updates computer billing Health can technology has travelled light years in only the past two decades. Thousands of lives are saved each year and modern health cars facilities ease the pain and suffering of millions. But along with the advances in health care technology have come .increased complexities of paying the bills. Duchesne County Hospital will soon be receiving a new computer system to help simplify the payment process. Controller Terrell Bloxham and his clerical assistants have some suggestions to streamline the payment of bills. With so much of a patients record going into the computer, a responsible partys social security number at the time of admittance is a must Insurance companies as well as Medicare and Medicaid use the social security number to identify the person, and the new computer is programmed not to proceed if a number is not claims. The patient should have his insurance policy and group numbers ready when obtaining service. The hospital also needs to know the insurance company address to send the claim. Some insurance companies require a predetermination call. For example, if a surgical procedure is indicated, an insurance company might require- that the patient' call before the operation is performed to be sure that insurance will pay for the procedure. The hospital is happy to make this predetermination call if the insured person will provide a telephone number. Some companies will not pay for treatment if it is not predetermined. If a family is insured with a husbands employer, the wife should know the husband's place of employment, address and phone number. Medicare and Medicaid are . Labor has allocated 11,066,758 to Utah for operation of the States Employment Service (Job Service) Program ' ' during Program Year 1985 which runs from July 1, 1985 through June 80, 1986. According to Tom Nordstrom, Manager of the Roosevelt Job Service, the funds will be used to continue to provide labor exchange services through the network of twenty-thre- e Job Service offices located throughout the State. During Program Year 1984, 197,000 individuals and 24,000 employers contacted the Employment Service agency seeking Labor Exchange services. These services, included 115,000 job openings, 84,395 job placements, . and 23,700 vocational counseling interviews. In addition, 25,918 individuals were .provided vocational, aptitude, and skill testing; 11,000 attended Job Seeking Skills Workshops; and many more individuals were given information about the Utah job market. The Employment Service budget allocation represents a decrease in the previous years allocation when over all costs of operation are taken into account. The Job Service has been using many methods to increase services within the constraints of shrinking budgets. One of these methods is the Job Seeking Skills and Job Market Information Workshop concept in which individuals are provided training ' July 31, 1985, Page 17 unless a Medicaid patient has his card. Bloxham says some insurance companies will not pay for certain outpatient services. If a patient knows the insurance company will not pay, he should come prepared to pay. This saves the hospital additional time and expense of sending a bill to the insurance company and, in turn, to the natient. Talk about money in the hospital setting may seem rather heartless. But the fact is that someone must pay for the advanced kind of top flight medical care enjoyed in todays world. If a patient is admitted through an emergency, paperwork and bill paying at that critical time are, of course, not an issue. But an admittance for a planned childbirth can be done well in advance of the blessed event. The same is true of many surgical procedures. a patient comes in for services. In faft, Social Services has instructed the hospital that services are not to be rendered If these arrangements are taken care of, and the proper information is available at the time of services, Duchesne County Hospital employees save much time. Ultimately, time translates into money. People would rather more of their health care dollar pay for advanced technology and skilled care rather than paper work. information on how to conduct a successful job search on their own, Mr. Nordstrom BLUEBELL both government sponsored providers that require the hosto produce reams of pital information on patients.
