However, this legislation has Thanksgiving is now a pleasant memory, he numerous preparations paid off and individual efforts were a success. Now many of our thoughts have turned to Christmas and he preparation which is an all consuming In concern. Each year we adorn ish Duchesne County residents to shop at home and support local businesses, and each year many residents ignore the suggestion. This year is no different, never been passed. Purchasing dollars spent in Duchesne County return in the form of sales tax revenues. Each of the City governments in Duchesne County can attest to the importance of this money in their overall budget picture. This tax money amounts to hundreds of thousands of dollars each year. The message may be the same message as in past years, but the need is ever increasing. Federal funding programs are continually shrinking and the need for communities to look out for themselves is growing. Shopping at home is one of the easiest methods to ac- iand our suggestion registers as loud as ever. Merchants in Duchesne County, as in other 'areas, spend a great deal of time and effort Tn preparing for Christmas. In anticipation of consumer needs they secure additional goods. All this in an effort to satisfy consumers. ; Area residents may argue many sides of the issue, but one fact remains. Local businesses provide many benefits to the community. During the past year they have promoted school and scouting events by donating time, money, and even free goods. They have also donated grocery items for fund raisers. Merchants are also the constant target of charitable organizations. complish this. We would encourage area residents to shop at home this year. It is a degradation and exploitation of the American Indian woman. Dear Editor, Your request for responses to the proposed legislation concerning trespassers interested me. We already have plenty of laws for the protection of private property. If you dont believe it, get caught breaking into someones home or driving across their front yard knocking down fences and breaking off shrubs. However, some people, under the name of sportsmen, seem to believe its all right and legal to enter private property completely unannounced as king as they have a hunting license in their possession. Oh, I know there are those who say, thats different, but really, what is different about it? Private property means just that., private and remains so whether its posted, painted, or whatever. Prior to every hunting season, Im disturbed by many reasonable, knowledgable citizens" who practically throw a fit because the Ute Indian Tribe closes many of the trails across their land, controlling access, patrolling their property and issuing citations to those who violate their private property rights. Again, I think we need to realize that their land ia private, too, and they have a legitimate right to control those who enter therein. Many sportsmen are concerned because choice hunting areas, which are privately owned, are dosed to the public, hunting rights being leased to private dubs or minting is allowed by special permit only...a situation created mainly by sportsmens attitude. Weve posted our land in Indian Canyon for years because of livestock being in the fields, but that doesnt stop trespassers. Now we have leased the hunting rights to an out of state group who respect property rights and it will be patrolled, access controlled and citations issued. Although we have many laws on the books concerning private property rights, I'll support legislation which will reinforce now have. degrading Don't let Santa pass you by: Call The Clean Sweep 722-216- or 9 722-458- CONVENIENT FINANCING AVAILABLE 6 1 Professional care and utmost cleanliness for the dirtiest job in the house. . |
