County governments are also expected to spend more than 8231 million in 1982 compared with $180 million spent in 1980. The following information shows how Duchesne and Uintah u 4 Counties compare with neighboring counties for expenditures and selected financial data. The association is designed to make life mow tolerable and exciting for the handicapped people. The awareness day will provide an opportunity for area residents to actually feel some of the needs, wants and desires of locally handicapped people. They will involve area people by letting them accompany blind people or those in wheelchairs for a few hours during the day with a blindfold on or in a wheelchair. The county commissioners in the Basin counties ran high in the state for wages earned. The Uintah county received in 1982, commissioners 819,140 and the Duchesne elected officials received 818,552. This ranked the two counties fifth and sixth from the top with other counties in the state. County governments in the Beehive state are expected to spend more than 8231 million in 1982 up 28o over what was spent in 1981. The smallest county budget in 1982 is Daggett county at 8598,311. The largest is Salt Lake County at S106 million followed by Weber at 819 million. Salt Lake county is shown to have a population of 641,000 persons followed by Utah county at 229.000 and Davis at 154.000. Glaim said he has been very wrapped up in cooperatives for the past ten years. He said his main goal has been to help the people. "I like the service aspect, said Glaim. Glaim added that he feels his experience at Moon Lake will allow him to contribute to Roosevelt City. Glaim said he has had experience in expense control, labor management, contract development and negotiations, and budgeting. "Hopefully my experience will be beneficial to Roosevelt City, said Steve. He said he would also like to express hia appreciation to the Council for their faith and trust in him as a councilman. Glaim will be assuming the position as City Councilman January 1. This compares to Uintah county's 9.51 mills. These figures are low when compared to Carbons 16.0, Emery's 16.22 and Wasatch countys 19.05 mills levied against their citizens. The school districts in each county are responsible for their own mill levy. Duchesne county has theirs' set at 34.65. Uintah county has a lower mill levy for schools set a 27.43. Price and Emery county go up from there with 43.66 and 40.66 respectively. Wasatch county has a school levy of 34.25. Many of the county's taxpayers live within the city limits and subsequently pay more taxes. Residents of Roosevelt have an agregate mill levy of 64.49. Duchesne residents pay 63.62 mills. Other cities are Altamont 62.21, My ton 23.09, and Tabiona 55.04 mills. This levy includes county, city, school, mesqui-t- o and water conservancy district mill levies. In Uintah county Vernal city residents only pay 49.93 mills. Ballard residents pay about 43.06 depending on the water district they live in. Residents living in Price pay 81.54 mills, Castle Dale in Emery county pays 77.65 and people in Heber City pay 63.30. To compare mill levies set by each city or town, Roosevelt is set at 17.87, Duchesne 17.00, Altamont 15.59, Myton 23.09, Tabiona 8.42, Vernal 1.8, Ballard .51, and Jensen Grants, government in lieu of taxes that are paid, and other kinds of monies also have an impact on how much money has to be generated by the local tax payers to operate county and city governments. Other statistics that show how expensive government is per person is the 1980 per captia county expenditures graph found in the UTA Statistical study of county goverments. Duchesne county spends 885.18 per person per year for general government operations, Uintah county spends only 842.62 per person. In public safety Duchesne spends 822.66, Uintah 823.32 per person. Health and Welfare shows a bigger difference between the two counties as Duchesne appropriates $3.59 per person while Uintah county spends 810.16 per person for Health and Welfare. Roads amounts to the biggest slice of the money pie spent in Duchesne with 8103.92 per person being spent. Uintah county spends 873.59 per person for roads. They do have available asphalt in the county that keeps this amount lower. Duchesne County has a total of 890 miles of county roads and Uintah county had Steven Glaim has been named as the new Roosevelt City Councilman.
