This photograph and many other early pictures of Myton were on display at Myton's Annual Homecoming last week. 17-1- Battle coming over windfall profits tax The Utah Royalty Owner's Association has been notified by the State Attorney General's Office that the State of Utah has decided to participate as a friend of the court in a suit against the federal government over the Crude Oil Windfall Profits Tax of 1980. Utah will join with the states of Texas and loiuisiana already entered in the suit. Federal Judge Ewing Kerr, Cheyenne, Wyo., where the case is being heard, allowed the states to join in the action which was filed Oct. 14, 1980 by the Independent Petroleum Association of America and others. 38 groups and The plaintiffs, individuals representing some 12,000 oi independent explorers-producecrude oil and natural gas, allege the tax is unconstitutional. A principal contention of the suit is that it strikes at property ownership which the trade group called the foundation of personal freedom. According to Richard Larsen, Chairman of the Utah Royalty Owner's Association, This action would seem to royalty owners to be a legitimate function of the State of Utah for the protection of royalty owner's private property, and we compliment the State Attorney General's Office for their initiative in joining as a "friend of the court in this suit against an onerous and unconstitutional taxing of citizens by the federal government rs Vernal man injured A Vernal man was injured Friday, July 17, when he fell from a rack of large pipe casings at an oil rig southwest of Duchesne City. Jerry Hausman. 19, was taken to the University of Utah Medical Center d in Salt Lake City by an helicopter where he was released Sunday, July 19. Air-Me- Clair Poulson, of the Duchesne County Sheriffs Department said Hausman apparently fell about five feet to the ground and in the process hit the back of his head, below his safety helmet on a pipe. Hausman then went unconscious.
