Show Thursday. January 22. 1981 Uintah Basin Standard 16 Cougar wrestlers defeated by Utes Uintah high school and Union high met in a wrestling match Wednesday, Jan. 14. Even though the final score was Uintah 42, Union 11, Coach Dennis Toland felt hia team wrestled well They didnt walk away with the match. It was our sophomores against their seniors, stated Toland. Toland commended the Uintah wrestlers, saying I think they are pretty good and the best we have seen. I expect them and Box Elder to fight for the state championship in the 3A division." Jeff Samuels, Union, won his match division with a 12-in the decision over Mark Augustus. The classification was a controversial one. Darce Gentry, Uintah, won the decision over Ferrell McCook was given two McCook penalty points for two false starts in the second round. Union's Brent Cundall won his division with a 10-- decision over Brent Bailey. d The division was won by Brian Hamilton. Hamilton had a 2 decidision over Uintah's Frank Atschool 105-poun- d 112-poun- d 3-- d 0 138-poun- 6-- INTERMOUNTAIN VS. UNION The Inter- mountain Eagles played on the Cougar court Friday night and beat the Cats 77-5The game was a hard hitting physical contest. Snow played a good game making 5 out of six free throws in the first period. Snow also grabbed quite a few rebounds for the Cats. Steven Robb was te top scorer for the Cougars making 18. Jerry Kulland followed with 9 points and 10 rebounds. Union is preparing to meet Wasatch this Friday at Union high school. Eagles claw Cougars The Union high school Cougars met the Intermountain Eagles Friday night on the Cougar court. The Cats lost to the offensively oriented Eagles by a score of 77-5The Cougars never led in the game, but played a good first quarter staying within two points of the Eagles. During the second quarter, the Eagles scored 30 points compared to Unions 13. The Eagles slowed down a bit in the third quarter, scoring 20 points. But, it wasn't enough, as Union netted 16, making the score at the end of the Union scored 14 third quarter 39-6points during the fourth quarter compared to 15 for the Eagles. The final score of the game was Union 53, Intermountain 77. Coach Brad Monks complimented the Eagles stating, They are an exceptional, offensively oriented team, which plays very well together. Steven Robb was the top scorer for the Cougars, netting 18 points. Jerry Kulland followed with 9 points and 10 rebounds. Brian Snow, Dean Townsend, Ronnie Gates and Lonnie Sammarita each netted four points. Steve Ferguson, who is still seeing limited action because of an injury, netted two points. The Cougars turned in their lowest . The Cats will meet Wasatch Friday night on the Cougar court. It is a must win game for the Cougars. Coach Monks stated, We have to win this one to have a chance at the playoffs. Wasatch is a quick club and Monks plans to tighten up the Cougar defense and make the Wasps play the Cougar's game. CHARIOT RACES Second First field goal percentage of the year with 39 and their best free throw average in a while, with 69 percent. The Cats turned the ball over 20 times and stole the ball from the Eagles 11 times. In Saturday, Jan. 17, proved to be another exciting day at the chariot by Tonna Sorensen Our wrestlers had two matches this past week. They hosted Park City and South Rich last Thursday and we took second place. East Carbon came up Friday afternoon. The boys did a great job and won. They will be going to Duchesne today, Jan. 22, to wrestle against North Summit and Duchesne. They will go to East Carbon Saturday afternoon. Last Friday the boys' basketball team hosted Park City. Both the JV aid varsity teams won. Their next game will be Friday at Duchesne. The girls will have two games this week. Friday they will Host Uintah and Saturday they will travel to Rangely. The speech team went to Duchesne to participate against the local schools. Saturday they went to Salt Lake for the Copper Classic. The term ended last Friday, so that means getting report cards which everyone is very excited about and looking forward to. Our basketball teams and wrestlers have been doing a great job these past few weeks. Our girls traveled to Emery Jan. 8. Their next game will be today at South Summit. The wrestlers travel to South Summit on the same day and go against North and South Summit. They will host Park City and South Rich. The match starts at 6:30 p.m. Our boys basketball team hosted Tabiona Friday. We won both games. Park City will be coming tomorrow, Jan. 16. Everyone come support them and watch them do a great job. The JV games starts at 5:45 and the varsity at 7:30 p.m. The speech team was at Weber State College last Friday and Saturday to compete in a speech meet April semi-finabroke and Monsen impromptu. ls races. The B Division finished with A1 Woehrmann winning, Nebeker and Goodrich second, and Freston and Starworld third. Double J Ranch was fourth. A1 Woehrmann won a set of blankets donated by G&L Chevrolet and a trophy donated by D&M Oilfield Service. Nebeker and Goodrich won a set of blankets donated by Superior Tire and a trophy donated by Kohl's Market. Freston and Starworld won a set of blankets donated by Ross Brothers Feed & Seed. Double J Ranch won a set of halters donated by Mohlman's. Berrill Bottling donated one ease of pop to Charlie Scott and Robb & Wilkerson. The Uinta Cutter Association and the owners and drivers of these teams thank the donors for their support, which has helped to make this a very successful chariot racing year.
