Nov. 29, 1980, a big break toward the fulfillment of this dream came. Jean Shepard was entertaining in Jackpot Nev. Gidget had the opportunity to meet and audition for Miss Shepard. As a result of that audition, Gidget was asked to go to Nashville, Tenn., to be on the Ernest Tubb Show. Dec. 9, 1980, a benefit show at the Vernal junior high school was arranged to raise the money for the trip. Kirk Pond and Mike Baum, Basin residents, played in concert with Gidget. Saturday, Dec. 13, 1980, Gidget appeared on the Ernest Tubb Midnite Jamboree, broadcast live every Saturday night from his record shop over WSM Radia Top Grand Ole Opry stars perform and it is an unofficial continuation of the Grand Ole Opry. Also performing that night were Justin Tubb and Jean Shepard and her band, the Second Fiddles. While in Nashville, Gidget sang at the Dukes Lounge' with Jake Brooks and Tony Glenn and their band. She also did a live audition at Casablanca Recording Studios which resulted in a demo tape being produced at Wild Track Studios on Music Row. This, tape is being sent to Warner Bros. United Artists, Cedarwood, and several other top recording studios. Two of the songs on the demo tape were written by Gid get's Nashville writers, I Cant See the Rsinhnw tar the Rain. by Jake a, -- Mrs. Bliss Eldredge was hostess to the Neighborhood Sewing Club Wednesday evening at her home. Gidget Calhoun, Roosevelt, has embarked on a singing career. She will entertain during the Annual International Country Music Fanfare in June in Nashville. Gidget has also had an offer to perform at the Country Palace in Denver, Cola, the home of Bonnie who is now a Nashville Nelson, entertainer. They are still many important arrangements in the offing. Gidget plans to do rodeos and state and county fairs this summer. She is going back to Nashville for the Annual International Country Music Fanfare in June. This is a week of continuous entertainment, stage shows, concerts, pictures and autograph sessions and more, all for the country music fans. Gidget has sung with many famous country and western stars over the years; Jean Shepard, Tommy Over street, Claude Gray, Billy Jo Spears, Jake Brooks and Tony Glenn. Her .ultimate goal is to record gospel music. She now writes many gospel songs. Donna Faulkner and Lila Sorensen, fine local writers, are also writing for Gidget. Wanda Hopwood, Gidget's personal manager from Twin Falls, Idaho; Jean Shepard and her agent, Jim Whitaker, have all been very supportive and helpful in her singing promotion. The Vernal Sheriff's Department, Leon Ross Drilling Company, Morris Jenkins of Pumper's Inc., and many other close friends have been instrumental in helping Gidget.
