Show Thursday, January 22. 19hl Frwa Nstti Myton Bal Margla Mt-- U This column is going to be (I hope) a combined effort of all the organizations that make up the populations of Myton. The Myton City counwhich community cil, progress is an extention transacted the following business at their latest meeting: The council reported that their application to H.U.D. for a grant to remedy their of, surface and drainage water problem has passed the county and state levels and has been sent on to Denver for final approval or denial. The council is hoping they will have the definite commitment by the middle of February. At this same meeting, Myton City made payment to LaMar D Construction for phase one of the program to the water lines in Myton. Phase one is 34 percent its members. Pat Peterson, our city secretary, belongs to a team sponsored by Dresser Atlas. reunion in this, place of their annual homcinming. If all goes well and things go as 1 y up-gra- and have and arc moving hark id Myton. The president and vice president of our PTSA for 1980-8are Linda Neilson and Luella Perry. I am glad to report they have a very active and enthusiastic group. They have several goals set for the next few months. One goal is to raise money for playfor ground equipment our new school which will be completed and moved before too long. The PTSA is making plans for a dinner and talent show, with all proceeds to go to the playground equipment fund. The exact date and time will be given in this column in the near future. As I mentioned earlier, the new school will be completed and moved into before school lets out this year. After the move is complete, there will be about two weeks before the demolition crew will begin to tear down the old school. The PTSA and Mr. Taylor, principal of Myton elementary, are trying to organize a reunion of all the people who have attended the school since its opening in about 1933. The Myton Homecoming Committee will join them complete. This is the installation of pumps on the Duchesne River for emergency use, to keep our ponds full at all times. The City also signed contracts with Horrocks Engineering to proceed with phase two of this operation. This will replace all of the old water lines in Myton as well as supply us with 22 new shut-of- f valves and 16 new fire hydrants. Bids for this construction will be advertised near the 19th of February, and the council is hoping construction can start by the first of March (weath er permitting). During this construction period, an agreement has been made with Johnson Water Association to supply the school with water if the need arises. Myton City and community wish to thank them for their cooperation. Wendel Barns, Myton City's watermaster, will begin a series of one-daseminars at the Utah in Technical College Orem, beginning Jan. 21. The classes will be on water management and instructions on how to run our water treatment plant more efficiently. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Adams have purchased the Stanley Long home She reports that at the half she and her team mates are in first place. Pal also has high game and high series (244) come in and look their old school over once more. As soon as the builders give an exact date when they can move in the new school, the PTSA can set the date for their reunion. We will keep you posted. Saturday. Jan. 17, Mary Arnold was honor- ly from S. 1575). Merrill Smith recentCar., is now living in Myton in the Peterson Apartments. He is employed by Jim Sybert, Myton. His family will join him here in Welcome, Mr. July. Bowden, president of the American Legion Auxiliary, reports that Myton has again taken to the Veterans Hospital their donation to the veterans' ed at her eighth birthday party. She and her fourteen guests were taken to the roller skating rink, after which they returned to her home to cut the two-foo- t high panda bear birthday cake - made by her father. The former Legion Hall, now the city's, was rented out last Saturday for a wedding reception. The city asks any one that is interested in using the hall to contact the city secretary at cookie jar. I must mention another thing our PTSA is sponsoring. Due to the bussing situation, where our elementary students have to wait for the bus from Union to take them home, their is an hour, between 3 and 4 p.m., n kids that the must wait. It has always been a hard hour with nothing planned to fill it. Not so any more! The PTSA has asked local people with special talent to come to school and teach this talent to any 722-271- The Wednesday Fern Bow- ling League called the Babes,'' has Bowling over half Myton ladies as who wishes to learn. They have Donna Pitt teaching ceramics; Edna Hardinger teaching art; and Ila Rae Gingel teaching cake decorating. They also have a leather class and several other interesting things to fill the waiting hour. Mrs. Glen Taylor has her Girl Scout meeting during this hour every Monday. She reports her girls have completed their Daisy Told Me" badge and are now starting on their first aid badge. In talking to the leaders of the various organizations in our community, I get the feeling that Myton is alive and well and should definitely be taken off the list of ghost towns in Utah. We have some of the liveliest and most forward-lookin- g ghosts I've ever seen! But, alas, we build our heroes up too quickly, and find in the heat of the moment, like the snowman, melt quickly. How much better to admire the quiet heroes, the good people who may not be rich or famous, but who are laying up riches elsewhere, who are building solid lives of the right kinds of materials. There are many of them around you, if you but seek them out.
