Games this week will continue to be played on the Sunnyside, Northern Heights and Helper fields. The minor league teams completed their round robin action last week with four teams qualifying for this weeks double elimination format Top team following the first week is the Northern Heights squad witha perfect 0 record. Price National followed with a 1 record and Helper finished 1 4-- 3-- 2-- The fourth qualifier in the minor leagues was Green River record. The Sunnyside with a 1- -3 minor leaguers finished their 2002 season by failing to win a single game during the week. The double elimination meet started Monday with Northern Heights playing Green River and ueta continues u1 Ideal WiiA fields Helper taking oa Price National. The games in this classification will continue until Thursday and possibly Friday with all games being played on the two Northern Heights diamonds at the Tby Atwood Complex in North tap ISbor Price Natl 12, Sunnyside 4 N. Currently, the team holds the second place slot in the legion standings. Although the team fell from first to second this past week, the team feels confident that they can bounce back to grace the top spot in the standings once again. The week started off for Helper with an important road game. The match up between Tkyloreville and Helper would be a bat tie for the top spot in the legion standings. Both teams had a 9-- 2 record entering the highly competitive game. , The first inning started out with three runs by Thylorsville. Helper started off on a rocky road by committing several errors in this inning, however the team would bounce back in the second inning. In this inning, Zac (Toward opened up with a single, followed by a Landon Itatson single and a Chandler Pearson single. With bases loaded, Josh Greenwood game and stepped up defensively to shut downThylorsvOle. By the fifth inning. Helper In found themselves down this inning however, Helper would score three runs, forcing 4--1. themselves ahead 4--3. Judge. Helper was scheduled to play at home on Wednesday against Viewmont, however the visiting, team cancelled. There will be no game on Wednesday for Helper who is now faced with rescheduling a league game in order to complete legion require-.men- ts for games played in a season. Cisneros hopes to schedule a game for next week which will be held in Helper, but currently dans have not been confirmed. Helper will complete the week on the road as they travel to American Fok on Friday and finish the week off in Kearns on Saturday. The team will continue to push their way through the competition and will return home Monday to play in a double header against Highland. . V i Champ and pro results announced for Blade Diamond tourney; This years 2002 Black Diamond Open was a huge success. The finish to this years event was more exciting than ever. Shawn Andreason from Mick Riley Golf Course fired a closing round of 62, eight under par to finish at a total of 10 un- ere who participated in the evept which was held the July 4 week- - : der par for the tournament. Andreason was the leader in the clubhouse until first round leader Todd Tanner hit a shot from under a tree on the last birdie. Tanner made the put to shoot a 64, four under par for the day and tied Andeason, forcing a sudden death playoff. On the first hole of sudden death, Andreason hit his second shot from the left hand rough to about 10 feet, while Tinner hit his second shot just inside of Andreasons shot. The Babe Ruth team is comprised of players from the Thun Electric, Conveyor Services, and Helper Merchants teams. The team competed in a pod play tournament which was held in Castle Dale. The Carbon B team won die first game in the tournament against Gunnison, 12-- 1 and lost their second game to Emery 7--6l . This placed the Carbon B team in die second seed to go the Utah south tournament which was held in Richfield the week of Jufy 8. . The team began the Richfield tourney against Panguitch. Carbon B defeated this team 32--1 The win gave die team a boost entefing into the next round of the tournament where they competed against number one seeded Beaver. Carbon won this game by the score of.J--2 which gave diem a guarantee of a first or second seeding for the Utah south seed in the state championships. . f The showdown for first place seeding in die state tourney came down to Carbon B and Emery. & was an crating game which came down to the wue.
