December 19, 2001 - Page 10 Broncos win tough one on road The San Juan Bronco basketball team made the long road trip to Kanab and came away with a 56-5-3 victory. Hie Broncos trailed the entire game until the last minute, when they took the lead and held on for the win. Bronco coach Derrick Farr said, "We played well enough to stay close and then we went ahead and won it at the end. San Juan was behind by as many as 8 points with 6 minutes left in the game, but relied on a effort to earn the victory. Farr was hesitant to point out the strong play of anyone, because he said both starters bench players contributed to the win. The Buckaroos played a strong third quarter to build a 42-3- 6 lead at the end of the third quarter and held on through a frantic fourth quarter to earn the win. The Buckaroos were paced by Clint Adams, who led all scorers with 29 points. In addition, Adams pulled down 10 rebounds and had 6 assists. Buckaroo Quinn Dowell added 13 points and 8 assists. Ryan Sandberg scored 11 points, including the last 5 points of the game. David Anderson scored 9 points, pulled down 9 rebounds. Joe Adams had 5 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Overall, the Buckaroos shot 52 percent in the game. .The Buckaroos took the lead midway through the first quarter and held on to it until the Red Devils made a comeback behind 3 point shooting to tie the game at 1 with 3:19 remaining in the contest. 16-1- 23-1- 51-5- Then Clint Adams took over, scoring 6 points down the stretch, Ryan Sandberg added 5 in the closing minute as the Buckaroos preserved their lead and earned victory. A rematch of the game will be held in Moab this evening, Wednesday, December 19. On December 14 the Buckaroos traveled to Green River to take on 1A opponent Green River Pirates. Once again, it was more of the same, with Monticello taking a first quarter lead which they extended on the way to 46-3- 7 victory. The low scoring contest was due to the tight zone defense of the Pirates, however the Buckaroos were able to shoot well enough to gain a lead and earn the win. Monticello was paced by Clint Adams, who scored 18 points, pulled down 11 int fensive rebounds. Quinn Dowell added 5 points and 5 assists. David Anderson scored 7 points. Joe Adams scored 5 points, and had 6 rebounds. The Buckaroos tended their lead to 34-2-2 The final Buckaroo contest of the 2001 calendar year will be December 27 in Monticello when they host the San Juan Broncos.
