Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday, October 3. 2001 - Page 6 Appreciates disaster coverage Dear Editor Your article in the September 19 San Juan Record was most interesting. One of the Sunday morning news shows interviewed one of Andrea Boohers team members and he mentions her along with two other FEMA people. It brought it closer to home and then today one of Pages city councilmen was interviewed from New York. He is one of die Utah special teams sent back. May we all remember how close we are and stand up to be counted. Vih?SSD The San Juan Record welcomes letter! from our readers. Thank you. Joan Nevills-Stavele- y Page, Arizona Where Is the ACLU? Dear Editor The terror of it September llths horrific events are makes one shudder to the core. That day, as I pondered on all that took place, I thought there was probably not a soul in the USA unaware of that tragic event... But wait... perhaps there are some oblivious... Where in the world are the ACLU?? Dont they realize that marquees everywhere proudly display the word (do I dare repeat them), GOD bless America? Have they heard that people on NATIONAL television are speaking openly about prayer, faith in God, and peace from Jesus Christ? Apparently they were not near a TV set when their own President declared September 14 as a day of PRAYER and mourning. Again I ask, Where are the ACLU? Where are their money-hungr- y lawyers? Could it be that this catastrophe has also brought them to Americans have been silenced their knees? Why is it that for so long to appease the minority? Its been said that there is no such thing as an atheist in a fox hole... Did it take a tragedy like what happened on Tuesday to finally put the ACLU in a foxhole? HILLHOUSE Proofreader Response to letter opposing drilling DAWN BOYLE Office Assistant KENYON FAUSETT Dear Editor: In response to David A. Liens letter in the September 19, 2001 issue of the San Juan Record , let me state that I applaud the federal authorities responsible for approving oil exploration near Dead Horse Point. Ill go one step further, I hope they find vast reserves of fossil fuels necessary to power this great nation. And in the process, I sincerely hope the Veritas Corporation, Intrepid Oil and their respective shareholders realize a reasonable return-nnot a reasonable return-- a great return on their investment! I have more confidence that capital accruing to the bottom line of corporations will lead to better environmental protection than will higher taxes, payments to OPEC or even contributions to your favorite environmental charity. Strange as tjiis may sound to those green ones among us, after years of observing their actions it has become obvious that their goals are: 1. To ensure their own coffers hre full to overflowing with contributions from poor unsuspecting people from far away cities. 2. To ensure that no development of any kind takes place anywhere that may benefit anybody. 3. That they and their own card carrying cronies are the only ones to be seen in the so called wild lands. I would feel much better about the sincerity of the environmental lobby if their followers didnt drive cars, fly in airplanes, live in houses with electricity or heaven forbid, eat food produced in a factory farm. . Contributions to environmental charities generally end up in the pockets of attorneys trying to stop progress within our own boundaries while at the same time assuring the well being of the oil exporting nations. So folks, when you feel tempted to contribute to one of these green charities, do yourself a favor and invest your hard earned dollars in one of those greedy capitalistic enterprises that provide you with all of lifes necessities.
