According to San Juan County weather watchers, which include the Lewis Black family in Blanding and the crew at the Monticello Port of Entry, it was wetter than normal, with total precipitation of 15.68 in Monticello and 14.89 in Blanding. Average annual precipitation is 14.97 in Monticello and 12.11 in Blanding. ' Weather in San Juan County continues a multi-mont- h trend of higher than average high temperatures. It was an extremely dry September in Blanding, with the community receiving only .03 of rain, significantly less than the 1.13 historic average precipitation for September. It was the same in Monticello, which received .42 of rain, significantly less than the 1.44 average. For the water year, it was a story of several months of feast and several months of famine. It was an extremely wet fall, particularly in Blanding, which had nearly 5" of moisture in October and November of 2000. Monticello had a heavier winter precipitation than Blanding, with totals significantly above normal in January through April. It wasn't until the summer months that precipitation dropped below normal in both communities, with hot and dry weather in May, June, and July before summer monsoons made a wet August. The low temperature for the year was 1 below zero in Monticello in January and IQ degrees in Blanding in January. The high temperature of the year was 98 degrees in Blanding for several days in June and July.
