Many of us wish it would remain a secret, but the Moonhouae Ruin site continues to sec increasing visitation. Documented visitation to Moonhouae in 1999 was 993 people (although actual use is almost always greater than documented use). Concerns about deterioration and potential instability of the archaeological site have resulted in the Monticella Field Office requesting that visitors to the Moonhouae Ruin site do not enter the structure itself Visitors are welcome to view the site from close by but are asked to refrain from going into the dwelling. Visitors should be aware that this type of user etiquette is encouraged at all cultural mtes. A sign requesting visitors da not enter will be placed pnur to reaching the McCloyd canyon rim (SESW Sec 35, T38S, Range 19E) in the Fish Creek Canyon Wilderness Study Area. The sign has been determined to be a facility that clearly protects or enhances the land's wilderness vslues, specifically the cultural resources which were found to be a supplemental wilderness value in the original wilderness study area inventory.
