Iyengar yoga instructor Kathy Curran says the answer is yes ... in a round about sort of way. Each year around Valentines Day, Curran teaches a back bending workshop with poses specifically targeted at opening ones heart, physically and emotionally. Physically, these poses are incredibly beneficial for keeping your heart healthy, says Curran, adding that a healthy heart in turn creates a healthy state of mind, which in turn can lead to a healthy chance at romance. Back bending really helps in combating depression, she says. And where love is concerned, Curran sap this can help practitioners become more compassionate and loving people. Curran, who has been teaching yoga for 24 years (14 in Durango), is passionate about its benefits, particularly the form she teaches, Iyengar yoga. B.K.S.
