Show THE ZEPHYR APRIL 1992 PAGE31 think if you ask a thousand people what a life of leisure would be like, you would get a thousand different descriptions. One person's leisure is another person's work. A common thread might be that leisure is what you do when you can do whatever you want What do you think? Send me your ideas and I will copy the ideas sent to me and send them on to you, although due to my schedule I'm not sure when. I feedback the readers respond What is wrong with the readership out there? Wake up people! I hate it when I use exclamation marks in a sentence, but this is ridiculous. We are living (?) through some of the most tumultuous times in the history of Grand County. Are you guys really that apathetic? The only letter in the Zephyr this month is from a man who claims to be one of the most unmotivated human beings in the Western Hemisphere. Where does that leave the rest of you? Several of you have threatened to write, but at this late date, the mailbox is empty. Please...don,t make me beg. John Woods St. Petersburg, Florida Editors note: Mr. Woods never got around to giving me an address. Send your responses and The ZEPHYR, and I'll try to pass them on. ideas to: John co J.S. DEAR PILL (Pioneer in leisure living) m First let me define my terms-wi- th Webster's help: Pioneer, one that begins or helps develop something new and prepares the way for others to follow, a person or group that originates or helps open up a new line of thought or activity. Leisure: freedom or spare time provided by cessation of activities, free time as a result of temporary exemption from work or duties, time at one's command that is free of engagements or responsibilities. It is hard to pinpoint the concept of leisure. It has to do with freedom and time. Each reads this will have different views about how much freedom and time they want and who person what they would with it. I think all of us want more freedom and more time to do what we want. I dare say we all want more leisure. Bertrand Russel said, "increase of leisure, diminution of hustle are the ends to be sought. The time has come, the moment is now to settle the frontier! Lets get together for mutual support and inspiration. Lets give birth to a new order of social integration, PILLS, MAIN STREET (Pioneer In Leisure Living Society). The existing social order based on production consumption and competition has to a dead end in terms of planetary and individual life and growth. For centuries and us brought more individual pioneers have left the mainstream to search for more satisfying currents or backwaters upon which to base their lives. We modern pioneers follow in their footsteps and discover yet new paths of life more satisfying than any trod by our predecessors. We, on the frontier, are confronted by obstacles and a negative mind set toward our goal of living life however we want, even if that means leisure living to the max with minimal obligatory work. We are also confronted by the masses, by our friends and acquaintances who express envy andor a desire to live a life of leisure. By becoming one, by becoming part of a new order, by creating PILLS, we create a haven to protect us from the barrage of criticism aimed at us. We affirm our individual right and responsibility to live a life of leisure. We also create a refuge for others wanting to explore the frontier. Remember, our frontier is limitless and we don't need to be worried about overcrowding. This letter is the beginning of a network. There are no rules, regulations!, or membership requirements.
