BURDEN PUT ON TAXPAYERS new york system of pens aning po linemen declared unfair police commissioner mcadoo of new york in retiring on pensions a number of officers has stirred up a varied assortment of opposition some of the men veterans of the civil war will go into court in an effort to re tain their positions they contend that a man a fitness for police duty should be determined by a competent court of record not by doctors acting under orders from the department head the expense incident to the charges also excites comment it is argued that the pensions are generally greater than the average incomes of heads of families and that it Is against public policy to compel the public to pay a pension to an able bodied man whose earning power is in some cases a great deal more than he received as a member of the fores while doing full duty an instance is cited of a policeman who has been receiving a pension of a year tor many ears and is now in receipt of a year salary in a certain company
