acceptable technological level The funding would update automation and and improve CElTs facility to equal other major libraries After completion of the "weeding" a process of deselecting materials that are outdated the library will have less than 20000 books Meyers said At that stage a library is practically worthless Meyers said and might as well shut down Meyers said he has envisioned many plans to bring CEU's library into the 20th century but he needs the funding to complete his goals Included in the renovation plans is a special collections room which will hold valuable books and rare autographed copies The library already has several books on local history and residents Karen Miller is in charge of the renovations In addition to purchasing new books magazines indexes and other journals Meyers wishes to install a computer network to catalogue materials The system DYNIX is used at three other Utah universities and colleges "An automated system would Page 5 Almee Anderson and debate coach Neil Warren hold up one of the awards won by the Forenslce team at their first meet Photo by Stephanie Manrldlkls of the year Dr Robert Meyers be a big help" Meyers said He wants to use personal computers for student access to library materials and it would make it easier for instructors to index subject headings as well To improve the loan system the library will purchase a FAX machine to transfer articles and document pages more efficient than the present mailing system Also personal computers will be networked with those systems at the University of Utah and Brigham Young University to tap into their resources faster As well as administering the library Meyers also teaches sociology He said he knows what it is like to be a student since he just received his doctorate in family from BYU last August Meyer's earned his bachelor’s degree in geography and his misters in library science from BYU inter-libra- ry gy (continued on page 12) Bookstore costs rank with others by Krlstal Fivas "The percentage of mark up on our producu is determined by Regent The price of books for college classes poses a problem for many students attending the College of Eastern Utah or for
