Show Highway Patrol Has Busy Year In 3 Local Areas Areas' District G of the Utah Highway Highway Highway High High- way Patrol consisting of Sanpete Sanpete Sanpete San San- pete Sevier and Wayne Counties Counties Counties Coun Coun- ties including Field Operations Checking Station and Radio Divisions Divisions Div Dev compiled the following activities during 1966 Over hours were spent on accident investigation by seven men men- menA A total of accidents were investigated There were seven fatal accidents In which 11 people were killed killed- Sixty-one Sixty accidents involved personal Injury injury injury In in- jury to one or more people in each accident Estimated property property property prop prop- erty damage exceeded In addition to a regular eight- eight hour shift six days a week 1317 hours overtime were logged by bythe bythe bythe the seven men Fifty-eight Fifty PickUp PickUp PickUp Pick Up Orders for Drivers Driver's Licenses and Automobile Registrations for Drivers Driver's License Division and Financial Responsibility Division were executed along with seven warrants Thirty hours were spent checking 58 Inspection Stations Stations Stations Sta Sta- and 15 hours inspecting 33 school buses seven Forty-seven hours were were spent in 32 meetings in Safety Education in which Safety films were shown and remarks remarks remarks re re- re- re marks made by troopers These were PTA groups MIA and Explorers Explorers Explorers Ex Ex- groups and high schools Each man also spent six days in Service In-Service Training Schools There are miles of state and federal highways plus many miles of county and city roads in the three counties which are patrolled by State Troopers In 1966 a total of 1203 arrests were made from which all aU fines and forfeitures are turned over to the county in which the arrest was made The Radio Division located in Richfield giving service to local local local lo lo- lo- lo cal sheriffs sheriff's departments city police departments and the Fish and Game Department in addition addition addition addi addi- tion to all aU Highway Patrol units recorded 1746 hours of taped transmission broadcast emergency messages 33 of which originated from that station and completed 82 by locating the people people people peo peo- and delivering the messages through the trooper in the field broadcast 82 runaway with 38 being apprehended 19 missing with seven being located and wanted persons with being apprehended 1756 stolen car broadcasts three of which originated originated originated from this station 1313 of Continued on page page four Highway Patrol Continued from page one these vehicles were recovered In addition special permits were sold by dispatchers in this station In addition the dispatchers dispatch dispatch- ers in the station answer many telephone calls for the Richfield City Police Department The Checking Station Division consisting of two men with portable portable portable por por- table scales were in operation from Oct 1 I 1966 through Dec 31 1966 During these three months they operated hours checked 1355 trucks resulting in 93 arrests and warning tick tick- ets In addition these men spent several hours assisting in radio and in field operations |
