G Stanford Rees State Senator Representing Beaver Millard and Sanpete counties Friday afternoon the close dose of the Senate session all an bills on the board except those on the third reading calendar went into the sifting committee Five senators are on this group and they bring out from day today to today today day the bills to be considered This is a good arrangement it enables the bills of importance to be considered Bills to be brought out of sifting sifting sifting sift sift- ing will include the three remaining remaining remaining re re- re- re bills on re-organization re of state government the school bills the retirement bills and many others I hope the Sunday closing bills die in the sifting committee The Senate Joint Resolution designed to abolish the constitutional constitutional constitutional umbrella over the justice justice justice jus jus- tice of peace courts failed inthe in inthe inthe the Senate after an interesting voyage This would have placed on the ballot banot the proposition of abolishing the Justice of Peace courts if the legislature saw fit The failed on the third reading reading reading read read- ing calendar then was called back and passed then called caned back again and failed It requires requires requires re re- re- re quires a 3 2 vote in favor to pass these resolutions I am sure th that t if it were up to the legislature these courts would be abolished I asked what we would use to replace them This type of court rural Utah cannot be without We may or m may y not like the J. J P P. courts but they are the counts that serve the rank and file of the rural areas A bill was considered which would have changed the judicial districts of our area It would have placed Sanpete with Utah County instead of with Carbon County where Sanpete is at the present time and consolidated Millard Sevier etc tc into one district district district dis dis- dis- dis where at this time they are in two separate districts This hassel ended with another another another an an- other judge being allowed in the Salt Tooele Lake-Tooele area where most of the congestion of cases is seen and the rest of the state remaining the same which is what our people wanted It looks like you are going to vote on at least two issues you defeated last general election 1 Increased pay for legislators and 2 Annual sessions of the legislature of which one is a budget session I voted against both of these propositions but really feel it is up to the people to decide Your representatives really should have more money for the time and expense in in- We leave for the capitol capital when it is still dark and return to camp after it is dark Reminds me meff cf of the time I worked for the coal mines but I love it Keep in touch |
