On Friday the 13th, the Miners were devastated by an impressive South Summit squad, 41-A replay of the game reads like the Star Gaper column as Park City combined bad luck with poor execution from the outset. The only cheers heard from the homecoming crowd were directed at the halftime show. 0. BAD SNAP The Miners somehow managed to win the toss of the coin and received the opening kickoff. Unable to move from their 30 yard line, they were forced into a punting situation. Unfortunately, punter Pat Pirraglio had to field a ground ball from the center and was tackled on his own nineteen. Taking advantage of this first A many turnovers, South Summit drove to the one yard line. From the one, Wildcat quarterback Stan Page took the ball in for the score. The extra point was good and South Summit had a 0 lead before most spectators had settled in their seats or had found their spot on the sidelines. 7-- ANOTHER TURNOVER AND SCORE Proving that if it weren't for bad luck, they wouldnt have any luck sA all, the Miners lost a fumble on their next set of downs. Missed connections on a third down pit-cho- ut gave South Summit the ball on P.C.s 21 yard line. After the Wildcats pushed the ball 14 yards, Vance Lewis ran around his right end for seven yards and six points. The conversion made it 14-0. AND ANOTHER Small but spirited George Sanchez returned the ensuing kick to Park Citys thirty. Quarterback Pirraglios first, down pass was intercepted and South Summit again had time at the P.C. possession,-thi48 yard line. Wasting little time. Wildcat Dave Maw scampered 48 yards for still another s The extra point gave South Summit a 21-- lead with the first quarter not yet expired. 0 MORAL VICTORY Achieving a City victory, received the Wildcat kick and did not relinquish the ball for three downs. However, though they did not lose the ball, neither did they gain sufficient yardage for a first down and they were again forced to punt. Pressured by a heavy rush, Pirraglio managed to boot the ball only 15 yards to the 50 yard line as the gun sounded, ending the first quarter. DEFENSE IMPROVES moral Park The Mina defense improved in the second period but poor offensive blocking precluded any Park City scoring. On fourth down at P.C.s thirty-si- x with six yards to go for a first down, South Summits Vance Lewis sped around his left end for a 13 yard gain. The Miner line stiffened and held the Wildcats at the 18 yard line only to have a face mask penalty give the visitors a first down at the ten.
