Show The DESERET SAMPLER, Fri Aug. 1, 1969 Stuart Career Counselor's Corner New USAH Commander The soldier who enjoys a challenging job will want to consider reenlisting under the Special Forces option. There is probably very little we can add to what you already know about the accomplishments of the select group of men who wear the green beret. While Special Forces troopers are men of brawn, they are also deeply involved in helping the people of the country in which they are serving. Talk to a member of Special Forces and chances are he will be proudest of the many good deeds he has done in his assignment. You, too, can become part of the Special Forces team if you are an E--5 or below with less than four years of service. Members of the Army Reserve and the National Guard who are enlisting in the Regular Army for the first time are eligible regardless of the nuinler of years of service. Terms of reenlistmeut for this option are from three to six years. Before you qualify for training in Special Forces, you'll have to prove that you are a rugged and intelligent individual. You must pass the Special Forces selection battery test with a minimum score of 3H0, the FT test with a 2(X) and be able to swim 200 yards. If you meet these qualifications, and pass your physical examination, you will then begin a long period of intensive training. For example, if you are not airixirne qualified, you will start your training at jump school. You will also lie trained to climb mountains, traverse snow, rapell down the sides of steep cliffs, move through jungle undergrowth, paddle a raft up an alligator-infeste- d river and learn to live off the land. The alwve training will lie in addition to the specialized training designed to nuke you an expert in a specific field. This specialized training might lie in communications, demolitions, operations and intelligence or as a medic. You will not only lie trained in a field in a second field so that you can of specialty but also take over the duties of a unit memlier who might lie incapacitated. We have additional information about this option and about the work of the Special Forces and will be more than glad to pass it along to you.
