Show The National Enterprise, August 31, 1977 Page six Sandy growth fuels building boom Sandy City is coming of at the age of 84. age Established near the turn of the century to provide a stopping point for trains between Salt Lake City and Alta during the mining boom, Sandy has experienced a population growth rate of 66.2 percent each year since 1970 and expects to almost triple its present population of 35,000 by the year 2000. Developers minstrator James R. Ash, outlines the prospects for new growth in the city and explains the growth policies of Sandy officials. The report says population and economic growth has created a considerable boom in construction and building industries in Salt Lake County four times the total construction in Salt Lake, Murray, South Salt Lake and Midvale for 1976. And thats just the beginning. A massive 60 to 70 percent of the city and adjacent unincorporated property remains undeveloped, assistant city administrator Gene Haroldsen says. A recent study compiled by Haroldsen and city ad- - Kodak must find offices growth continued. Government in Sandy has adopted the philosophy of not promoting growth, per se, but managing and facilitating development and assuring that new developments pay their own way. And though not officially soliciting incorporation of ad- properties, the city does offer benefits for those properties which petition to become part of Sandy.
