Champion, formerly a secretary with the public information office at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland recently enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps under die Walter Reed Army Institute of Nursing Program. Miss Champion will begin studying in' a bachelor of science degree in nursing at the University of Maryland this month. Apprcndmately 135 applicants are selected each year to enlist in the Army for participation in the program. Initially, the selectee pursues two years of study in an approved and regionally accredited four-yecollege or university of her choice. Upon successful completion of the first two years, the participants will matriculate to the Walter Reed Army Medical Center for clinical training under the direct supervision of the University of Maryland. The Army . Nurse Corps will pay all tuition and fees, room and board, and will furnish a monthly salary equivalent to that of an E--3. Six months prior to graduating from the University of Maryland, Miss Champion and the other selectees will be commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army Reserve. After passing the state boards for registration, they will be called to active duty for three years.
