The automotive craft shop saves personnel many dollars on auto repairs and Acre is a skilled mechanic on duty to assist even the most novice of auto THE CHIPS FLY as Lt. Mike Carroll operates the planer in the woodshop. Each individual operating these types of machines have received instruction and hold an operating permit in order to insure safe procedures on using dangerous equipment. Dugway Crafts Sections For Entire Family Fun I The 1968 Army Arts and Crafts Week starts today on post and will end May 15. Due to Dugways isolation the Crafts section is one of the busiest daces on post after duty hours. Approximately 24,000 visits were made to the two crafts shops on post in die last fiscal year. THE CRAFTS Director, Mike Masoian is assisted by Ernest (Ernie) L. Snook and PFC Andy Cortez. Part time instructors are Mrs. Garth Anderton, PFC Merlin Hall and Sp5 Herbert Dews. Mr. Masoian has estimated that an average of $50 per day is spent in the sales store which has over 250 items for sale and carries inventory of about $1,300. The main purpose of die crafts program is to provide an opportunity to develop an avocation or hobby and a constructive use of leisure time. It is available to military, civilians and their dependents. ONE ACTIVITY which will soon be available is the Photography section which is programmed for the near future. Craft Shop hours are Wednesday-- 1 to 10 p.m.; Thursday and Friday-4:3to 10 pm; Saturday-- 9 am. to 5 p.m. and Sunday-- 1 to 5 p.m. The Shop is closed on Monday and Tuesdays. The Auto Crafts Shop hours are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 4:30 to 10 p.m.; Saturday-- 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundto 5 p.m. ay-1 The following is a b'st of the services offered by the Crafts . ' 0 Section: CERAMICS Mold pouring, potters wheel, stoneware, clay modeling, plas tic paris (Youth Crafts), special glazing techniques, underglaze decorating, patterns, combinations of glazers. WOOD WORKING Radial armsaw, table saw, band saw, planer, jointer, drill press, lathe, sander, grinder, portable jig saw, hand tools. LAPIDARY Rock cutting, saws, trim saw, sander, polishers, buffers, lap wheel, grinders, sphere cutting machine, tumblers, overhead lap. LEATHER Products are purchased from Tandy Leather Company. Patterns, saddle straps, swivel knives, dyes, stains, leather lacquer, and all necessary items are available. MODEL AIRPLANES Engines, rubber powered, radio controller, construction accessories, bell cranks, mounting bolts, control lines, control line reels, fuel, dope, glue, sick span, balswood, etc. MODELS Mosaics and oil paintings, cars, planes, animals. PHOTOGRAPHY Planned for the future. AUTO CRAFT Six stalls in building. Complete tods for fixing flat tires to major overhaul, valve grinder, ignition instruments (timing light, etc.), spark plug, cleaner and tester, motor mounts, tire changer, creepers, safety jacks, acetylene and arc welding, and car washing. GEODE ROCK hunting is so popular that the Cem and Mineral Club boasts approximately 40 members who periodically go out and look for the unusual rocks. Here Mrs. Sol Davis buffs a geode preparatory to polishing. .. EQUIPMENT IN T1IE Lapidary Room of the Craft Shop is modem and Here Sp4 Tom Fonville uses the trim saw. Dugway is noted for its unusual rocks and geodes thus this room gets plenty of use. e. ' THE BUSIEST place in the Craft Shop is the Crafts Sales Sion. Here Ernie Snook discusses an item with Mrs. Eldon I FATHER WORK techniques are illustrated to SSgt Herman Meier by Ernie Snook. Belts, purses, and other leather accessories are worked on by DPG personnel in the leather-wor- k section. The auto crafts shop is completely equipped to handle just about any type of repair your car may need.
