Award of the National Defense Service Medal has been extended to uniformed personnel with service after Dec. 31, 1060, by Exe-- I cutive Order of President Johnson. The Medal may be awarded for certain active duty periods to be designated by Defense Secretary Robert S. McNamara as meriting special recognition. According to the Feb. 12 issue of Commanders Digest, more details cm the award of the medal are expected later this month. Active service personnel who earned the medal during the previously authorized period, June, 27, 1950-Jul- y 27, 1054, may add a braize star denoting a second award.
