Show TEST RUN, Dugway Proving Ground, Friday, September 10, 1965 CBR Detachment New The Cauldron 131,714. This is the number cf accident free miles that have been accumulated by the CBR Weapons Orientation Course drivers. Sergeant First Class Haver, the Chief of the CBR Detachment Transportation Section and all of his drivers are congratulated on a Job well done. With the school vacation season over and everyone back to work again, the CBRWOC can. say with pride that none cf its members were involved in any traffic accidents during the vacation period. How do you know when the troopers enjoy their First Sergeant being on leave? This is hard to answer, but since Sgt. Mahoney has been back the CBR Troop Detach nent has had three A.W.O.L.'s. (Step being so mean sargt). Since the last Detachment article was published, the Detachment has had quite a few arrivals and departures. Arrivals are: Sgt. Sullivan from Fort Lewis, Washington, who has taken over the Smoke Section. The new Decon Chief is Sgt. McCrary, a recent arrival from Okinawa. The new Detachment clerk is Sp5 Harper, arriving from France. Arriving from Fort Irwin, California, was Staff Sergant Robinson, who is assigned to the Fire Direction Center with additional duties as Training and Education NCO. The CBRWOC also welcomes Sgt. Parker, Sp5 Mcfadden, Sp4 Land, Sp4 Sharp, Sp4 Eden, Sp4 Zunker, PFC Brummet, PFC Levitzow, PFC McCray, PFC Nichols and PFC Collins. The departures are SF Shackelford, Sgt. Latham, Sgt. Janes, Sp4 Riggs and PFC Lazarus. The CBRWOC also bids farewell to SSGT Henson, Sgt. Snell, and PFC Mitura, who have all received overseas alerts. v With the loss of SFC Shackelford the new Chief of Firing Battery is Staff Sergeant Arthur Elmore. GILBERT ESPECIALLY will be missed, not so much for his trenchant wit, athletic prowess and killer instinct, but because like Virgil for Dante, he was a link with the denizens cf the nether world of Dugway's glorious past. In the lee of the desert wind, warmed by the flickering light of campfires, Gilbert, like Homer a master of the oral epic poem, would bring the heroes and their glorious deeds tc life, endowing empty names w!th flesh and blood, cold words with fire and passion. The sounds of fall are already here: the crunch of cleats on gravel, the slap of shoulder pad against shoulder pad, the pop of beer cans, the warm rustle of girls in tweed skirts and bulky sweaters (a tear cf nostalgia falls) . . , Just the other day, Bobby X (brother cf Brand), one of our more vociferous football strategists, was explaining the mechanics of several special (but we hope not classified) palys, to the boys in the Dog Area Mess.
