The Utah Oil Refining company is drilling two additional wells as offset to the Westland properties and two rigs are moving ina These wells are producing 500 barrels each, making necessary the pipe line which is now in contemplation. It is estimated that on a basis of $5000 an acre on the proven grounds of the Westland company in the Black Mountain area, these lands alone are worth $1,000,000 or a valuation of $10 a share for the outstanding stock of the company. A contract has just been completed for drilling in this ground by the West-lanthousand company. Thirty-fiv- e has been set aside to drill an offset to an producer. This work is to be prosecuted at top speed. The company also has operating rights on 120 acres of select acreage on the Gebo structure in the Big Horn basin on which a test well is now being drilled by the Utah Oil Refining company. At Alkali, in the Wyoming territory, the company controls the entire situation consisting of two structures covered by three permits. This latter property is in the northern part of the Big Horn basin, 40 miles southeast of the Elk basin field. It is one of the most ideal structures in America and was one of the first government withdrawals outside of Salt Creek. During the past season the company drilled to the Dakota sands at 500 feet, encountering 3,000,000 feet - d 800-barr- el of gas constituting 15 a discovery that au- lease. tomatically gives a On the Red Dome structure, adjoining the Alkali the Westland drilled to 735 feet and hit a production. Further drilling at this point has been complicated by water difficulties, but with proper equipment now available this difficulty will soon be solved permitting attainment of greater depth. Drilling agreements on a share of acreage have been entered into with a Montana company that relieves the Westland of further expense in this section. The Westland with the Continental Oil company of Denver controls the operating rights to practically all of the Douglas Creek structure in Rio Blanco county, Colorado, 20 miles south of Rangely where the Texas reecntly had so much trouble trying to control 100,000,000 feet of gas in the Frontier sand. Operations on Douglas creek will depend upon showings at Rangely and Wilson creek. The latter is in Rio Blanco county and is being drilled by the Texas company which has spudded in a h hoie, headed for the first objective, the Dakota sandstone, estimated to be at 5,800 feet. In Utah the Westland controls operating rights on several structures near Moab and other properties adjar cent to Midwest company and Utah Southern operations. twenty-yea- r 10-barr- el 24-inc- On the Nokai structure adjacent tr the San Juan river, the company has 2,560 acres, the balance of this dome being controlled by the Midwest and Utah Oil Refining interests. As the Carboniferous is exposed in this region, it is thought that the Pennsylvania sands will be encountered at 2500 feet. It is in this territory that oil has been developed in more than a score of wells since 1910. 'The Elk Ridge structure is focusing the attention of several of the old line companies, since it has been pronounced by geologists the most promising structure in southeastern Utah. Here the Westland company controls four sections of land entirely surrounded by holdings of the Midwest company which is making extensive preparations to test the ground. A road is being built to this area to permit the transportation of drilling equipment Considerable publicity was given to the fact that the Westland had discovered some open areas on Cane Creek, Shafer, Lockhart and Indian Creek domes as a result of survey errors, amounting to 200 acres on the tops of the structures.
