Utah leads all states in silver production, and it is sixth in the production of gold. Just 26 miles outside of this city, at Bingham, there is the worlds largest open cut copper mine of the word, the Utah Copper Company, which was made possible by the engineering intelligence of D. C. .Tackling, who now is among the richest men of the nation. Utah ranks second in the production of copper and is third in the list in lead production; The mining industry in Utah has become the greatest industry of the state because of recent developments, and such Utah Copper, Silver mines as the Tintic Standard, Park-UtaKing Coalition, etc., pay millions in dividends annually, and there appears unlimited quantities of high grade ores in the . mines to run for many years to come. ; The oil industry, while in its infancy, is bound to also become a great industry in this state. The Utah Oil Refining Company has already paved the way with a ten million dollar plant. Oil is being struck in various parts of the state aiid the good prospects are being held out for an oil strike' in this valley.. Gas has already been struck and next will come the oil. . h, : t ; i. |
