Show Fishing opener faces wet roads, high water VIINTAH BABIN Boxing club Mexico and go Albuquerque, directly to the National finals in Rapid City, South Dakota. The local boxing club has been sponsored this season by the Ute Tribe Alcohol and Drug Program. New to attend meet May 30, 31 Junior Olympic boxing team for Intermountain heads Regional Tournament at Fort Hall Idaho lead by Eddie Martinez who has so far this year won three Utah State Championships and two Regional titles, they are State Junior won at Ft. Olympic Champion-shiDuchesne, State Golden Gloves at Salt Lake City, Utah State AAU won in Orem Utah along with the Las Vegas Regional at Las Vegas Nevada and the AAU Intermountain Championship also at Orem Utah. Martinez said he hopes that he and his teammates can win in Idaho for then they may continue towards a National Championship. J. 0. State champions Richard Burns, Leslie Myore along with George Sloane, Max Serawop, Andrade Santio and Robert Jack Jr. will round out the squad for this meet. Coach Ernie Martinez says that all of these boys are capable of winning in Ft. Hall although this is the first Regional tournament for all but his son Eddie. Several states will compete and the competition will be tough, but then these Uintah Basin boys have proven to be tough also in the past, Martinez concluded. Efforts are now being made to allow the winners of this tournament to by pass the Western States Tournament in AD-PE- P p Calf roping scheduled May 31 On Saturday, May 31, at 10:30 a.m. at the Allen's urena in Vernal, there will be a Drippin Chicken Water" calf roping competition. Entries will close at 9 a.m. on May 31. Dean Oliver, World Champion calf roper will also be present for the annual event. A large crowd is expected and there is always a chance of catching some large trout out of this water. Limited facilties are available. is a beautiful lake Browne Lake-Thi- s surrounded by the beauty of the Uinta Mountains. Fishing is fair for brook and cutthroat trout. It is also storked with rainbow. The stream below the lake is excellent for trout Brush Creek-Thi- s creek will not be stocked for the opener because of the high water. As water conditions improve, rainbow catchables will be stocked. Big g pan-size- d Carter Creek-Thi- s stream will be stocked with rainbow catchables in the Deep Creek area as soon as the roads are passable. This stream below Highway 44 is closed through June 30 and closes again October 1. Crouse Reservoir-Thi- s reservoir will be stocked with rainbow fingerling prior to the opener. Fishing is generally spotty, but the fish are in excellent condition. A large crowd is expected. Currant Creek-Thi- s stream opens July 1. This stream may also receive catchable trout, depending on water conditions. Fishing is expected to be good for cutthroat and brown trout. Be aware of the construction in the area. Duchesne River-Thi-s river is designated as a wild fish stream; therefore, no catchables are stocked in this river. Wild fish include brown trout, cutthroat trout and white fish. Because the stream-bre- d fish are naturally a little wilder, expect to work for your catch. East Park Reservoir-Expec- t a treat every time you go to this reservoir. The scenic drive makes the trip worthwhile. Located just off the Red Cloud Loop Road, this reservoir offers good rainbow fishing with an added treat of some nice brook trout. This reservoir will be stocked prior to the opening, weather permitting. 0 5 10-1- 9 the 1975 fishing opener in the Northeastern Region. The inclement weather this spring has had some adverse effect on the fishing pressure on the waters such as Flaming Gorge and Pelican Lake, but pressure is expected to increase as the weather improves. Most of the streams are expected to be high and roily for the opener; therefore, most fishing will be limited to controlled streams and impoundments. A large crowd is expected for Raosavalt, Utah of the state's most Flaming Gorge-On- e trout fishery will also popular year-roun- d provide an excellent opportunity for the opening day fan. The late spring has hampered early fishing somewhat; but with a break in the weather, a large crowd is expected on the oper' ay. n Remember, the national reco trout was taken here this spri e e camping facilities and ma available. Fishing from boats i n best. is one of the , Green River-Thi- s st streams in the state. A large crowd is expected for the May 31 opener. Many people will be on the river simply to enjoy the beauty and relaxation of a float trip. The trail from the dam to Little Hole offers the enthusiastic sportsman a fine experience. Remember that the limit is six trout, and life jackets must be worn while floating the river. An assortment of tackle and bait is used with good results. Jones Hole Creek-Thi- s stream is below Jones Hole Hatchery where good fishing can be expected. Brown trout, rainbow and cutthroat are common. It is a pretty area and you may visit the hatchery while you are there. Lake Fork River-Thi- s is river controlled by Moon Lake, so it should be clear although a little high. Little Brush Creek-Th- e road into this area is late in opening; therefore, keep this creek in mind for a July fishing trip. This creek is located below East Park Kesri voir and is slocked later in the summer with rainbow catchables. Middle Fork Sheep Creek-Thi- s small stream parallels the road to Spirit Lake. Catchable trout may be stocked for the opening. Fish the beaver ponds for cutthroat. Moon Lake-I-l is a possibility that this lake will remain inaccessible right up to the last minute before the opening; therefore, there may be no fish stocked for the opener. For last minute conditions on this lake, contact the Wildlife Resources office in Vernal There should be a good population of holdover rainbow, brown, cutthroat and brook trout. Moon Lake is located in some of the high country of the Uinta Mountains. North Fork Ashley Creek-Thi- s stream May is expected to be high and murky on the opening. As the water goes down, rainbow catchables will be stocked. North Fork Duchesne River-Thi- s stream may not be stocked for the opener. The water is expected to be high for the opening, but it is usually clear and fishing is expected to be good if stocking is permitted. Here are some excellent camping areas along the river, so get there early and select your spot. Albino rainbow trout will again be stocked with the normal strain of rainbow, so a nice variety will be offered to the angler. It's a good bet for the whole family. Oaks Park Reservoir-Thi- s is another lake located in the Uinta Mountains just off the Red Cloud Loop Road. If the roads are open in time, it will be stocked with rainbow catchables for the opening. Paradise Reservoir-Las- t year's drought had its effects on this lake. It will have to be restocked this year with rainbow catchables. It may be late before this can be accomplished, so contact the Wildlife Resources office in Vernal for updated information. Pelican Lake-Thi- s lake is open all year round, but certainly deserves mentioning. The bass and bluegill fishing is unis a equaled anywhere. Remember-ther- e limit of 20 bluegill and 10 bass on this water. There are no facilities at this reservoir. Pole Creek Lake-I- t is questionable if lake will be accessible for the opening. If it is, rainbow catchables will be stocked. Check with the local sources a few days before May 31 to see if the roads are open. Red Creek Reservoir-Thi- s reservoir will not open until July 1. Fishing is expected to be good with many large trout showing in the creel. There are no facilities at this reservoir. Rock catchables will be stocked if water conditions are right It is expected to be high for the opener. Some large brown trout are found in this this Creek-Rainbo- stream. lake will open Sheep Creek Lake-Thi- s with the general season this year. Many large cutthroat and a few brook trout are available to the angler. The lake is located in the beautiful north slope of the Uinta Mountains. creek will open May Sheep Creek-Th- e 31 above Highway 44. The section below Highway 44 will remain closed through June 30. A few cutthroat may be caught above 44. No catchables will be stocked until the water goes down. South Fork Ashley Creek-Thi- s stream will be high and murky on the opening. Rainbow catchables will be stocked when water conditions are right. Fishing gets better when the water goes down. Spirit LakeIt is doubtful that the road to Spririt Lake will be open by may 31. Rainbow catchables will be stocked when the road is open. Starvation Reservoir-Thi- s will be one of the most popular waters in the region. Improved roads, good boat ramps and imroved camping areas await the angler. Overflow campgrounds will be heavily used. Fishing for rainbow and a few 13 good. Reservoir-Thi- s reservoir, mirth of Vernal, should provide good fishing for rainbow and large mouth bass. The bass are the result of a recent unauthorized plant. Some bass are going 2 pounds and better. This is an excellent opportunity for a family fishing outing, the State Park provides adequate facilities. is the "quality Strawberry River-Thi- s fishing stream" in this region, and provides some excellent fly fishing for the expert. Fishing season for this stream open July 1. Check your proclamation for all the regulations. Caution: Strawberry River, Currant and Creek, Red Creek, Reservoir of and Duchesne West Fork the drainage River are patrolled by truck and airplane, so remember, they open July 1. Uinta River-Thi- s river is also expected to be high and turbid for the opening. When water conditions permit, the stream will be stocked with plenty of rainbow trout. Some good brook and cutthroat trout fishing may be had later in the summer. West Fork Duchesne River-Thi- s river opens July 1 and provides some good cutthroat and brown trout fishing. Whiterocks River-Thi- s river provides some good fishing for cutthroat and brook trout. It is also a wild fish stream, and catchable trout are not stocked. Fishing in the summer and on through the season is excellent, but don't expect much on the opening. Flies, worms and lures are good on the Whiterocks when the water goes down. Yellowstone River-Thi- s stream will probably be high and turbid on the opening. It will be stocked when the high water subsides. Some large brown trout are in the stream; and cutthroat, brook and whitefish offer a variety for late summer fishing. new Creek Reservoir-Thi- s built as part of the Central reservoir, Utah Project, is located in eastern from Wasatch County downstream was It Reservoir. heavily Strawberry planted with small rainbow trout over a year ago and should provide good fishing on the opener. The rainbow will generally run in the 10 to 12 inch category. No camping facilities are available; and because of a late runoff, the limited shoreline camping spots will be muddy in most areas. The Strawberry River below the dam is not open until July 1. to this water Scofield Reservoir-Acces- s is good, but camping facilities are limited. Ice should be gone before opening day. Success is expected to be good for 10 to 12 inch rainbow and an occasional cutthroat. Pressure should be extremely heavy, especially if higher waters are still inaccessible. As in the past, anglers are reminded to take their litter home as garbage collection is limited. Uinta Lakes All lakes above 8,500 feet elevation are still frozen and inaccessible. Soldier MAY 29. 1975 fishing for the horseman and backpacker will be available in most lakes by late June or early July. Lakes in the Weber River drainage should produce some of the best fishing because of the light pressure they have received in previous years. All of the lakes along the Mirror Lake Highway will not be accessible until mid-tlate June. When access is possible, all of these lakes will be storked with brook and rainbow trout. These lakes provide good midsummer and late summer fishing. Bridger Lake and Hoop Lake may be open to angling this year depending on how fast the roads clear. Highway 150 will not be open past the Duchesne TunneL Good brown and cutthroat is expected to be Steinakrr STANDARD o Well service brings in work over rig Western Oil Well Service has announced the arrival of a third work over rig, and has stated all three rigs are currently operating; one for Shell Oil Company and two for Mapco Company. One of many oil well services, Western moved to the area in October of 71, locating a shop about two miles west of Roosevelt on Highway 40. John Bentz, company superintendent stated, "We, my family and I, have bought a home here and plan on being here a long time. Perhaps fifteen or twenty years, and the company plans on bringing even more rigs in." Western, with head offices in Billings, Montana brought only one rig with them when they moved to the country in 71. They brought another rig in, in 1972 and now have a third rig. Mr. Bentz said that the company moves a rig onto the same location of a well previously drilled getting it ready for production with equipment such as tubing, rods and etc. Another job of the company is to produce a well that is not producing, not producing enough or which starts producing water; by means of artificially lifting, which consists of rod pump or gas lift The company employees sixteen people.
