Show STANDARD APRIL 24, 1975 Altrus club recognize library week Altrus Club met April 10 in the Union school library in recognition of Library Week April 13 through April 19. Virgie Murphy and Beth Duke, hostesses for the evening, served apple pie and a carbonated beverage garnished with lemon slices. Eighteen members were present to enjoy the treat on library tables decorated with flowers for the high : occasion. Louise Jorgensen reviewed the book The Tenth Month by Laura Z. Hobson. Ms. Hobson recounts the experiences of old Theodora Gray a divorced journalist who always wanted a child land thus far in her life had not been able to have children. The story is based on the real-lifexperiences of an acquaintance of Mrs. Jorgensen who was able to give club members some personal insights into the background of this book. Mrs. Margaret Loranger is tending Jimmie, Jennie and grandchildren Michelle Boren while parents, Duane and Mary Lou are vacationing in Las Vegas. New Stake Relief Society officers sustained Sunday were Eloise Adams, president, with Sharon Alexander as counselor and Joann Horrocks from Neola counselor. Bonnie and Dave Campbell and children from Orem are spending his spring break from school here with her parents, the Ron Eskunds. Mrs. Fontella Tomlinson, Melba Eskund and Eloise Adams went on a Temple Excursion in Provo Saturday where they witnessed the Temple marriage of Blaine Brokaw and Gwen Barney. The bride was a long time friend of Fontella. Visiting over the weekend with the James Powells were Leon and Lucy Moore from Provo. Doctor and Mrs. Phillip Condie will be having company for a couple of weeks when her sister Jean Nash from Driggs, Idaho comes to recuperate from a kidney transplant. Mrs. Nash donated a kidney to her brother Lyle Murdock in Salt Lake at the University Hospital last week and the report is both patients are doing well Mrs. Margaret Loranger hosted a Tri Chem Painting Party Tuesday at her home with Ann Boren Instructor. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Peterson from Nephi called on the Max Nelsons one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. James Powell received the good news of the birth of their first great grandson born April 18th in Salt Lake to Mike and Maxine Bailey. The program consisting of demonstrations and displays was held in Vernal Roosevelt and Duchesne. Dr. Joseph Austin, Area Livestock Specialist, had a slide presentation and display on Food Safety, stressing the importance of proper handling, preparation and storage of food to prevent food borne illness. Marie Hale, Home Economist, had a display on Home Canning, showing common canning problems and how to prevent them. She also presented Blender Magic, demonstrating the versatility of the appliance, and Be A Better Shopper, with tips on how to become a more informed consumer. Colleen Long, Family Life Specialist, demonstrated the Microwave Oven with its many uses. Dr. Vaughn Hunsaker, Area Agronomy and Soils Specialist, had a display mi Home Gardens and Home Drying. There were several commercial dealers with demonstrations on Freeze Dried Foods and Dehydrated foods and Wheat Grinders and Bread Mixers. Literature and refreshments were available to. the public. Winning door prizes of canning jars in the Roosevelt area were Sue Mecham, Zelma Lloyd, and Maurine Bellon, and in the Duchesne area Yvonne DeRyka, Shellee Smith, and Leisa Burdick. and LaRama Riding are spending a week with their parents, the Wendell Frestons.
