It is patriotic to support him insofar as he efficiently serves the country. It is unpatriotic not to oppose him to the extent that by inefficiency he fails in his duty to stand by the country. Oregon's Constitution dating from 1859 is one of the first constitutions to come under current attack. An attempt to revise it a few years ago was defeated soundly. From time to time it may be advisable to amend a constitution, but the current craze to bring about wholesale revisions of all constitutions is for one purpose only: to divert the power of The People and to redistribute the authority away from We The People. Will Uncle Sam Be Your Next Baby Sitter? By proposed (D-Ind.- ), Oregon document is designed to take over in 1978 if approved although it is being publicized as the 1976 constitution. In its Preamble, first sentence, the proposed metro constitution kicks out We The People. To get the full impact of the suggested change, one must check back to the present Oregon Constitution. Its Preamble says. "We the people ... do ordain this constitution." The People speak The sixty (60) firmly, there. delegates who authored the 1859 constitution W'ere chosen by The constitutional compact. The proposed 1976 metro constitution merely observes. John Brademas cosponsored by 17 House colleagues, could well mean the federal government would have the right to take parents children away from them. At best, it would allow the government to control their minds. Supposedly, the bill (H.R. 2966) is designed to assist working mothers and single parents who have to leave their children without adequate supervision at times. Under the terms of the the measure prospective children would be dropped off at a federally operated center. There the program would offer children of low families adequate income health, nutritional, educational and related services. The child would receive free health care and food so it is logical to assume the parents would accept whatever the school curricula might be to receive the benefits of enrolling. The Act also would provide free consultant, prenatal, medical care and additional services for expectant mothers who cannot afford them. The Act would even meet the special needs of children and families before, after and during school, and during the summer. And just in case there are some family problems (it is difficult to think of a family that doesnt have some problems), the Act would provide for the diagnosis, identification, and treatment of men- - self-governi- ng The programs. Most important, if the child has an emotional problem, the Act would provide that he or she can be taken away from home for treatment.
