An interesting question that arises respecting the selection of Commissioner Dunn for membership on ACIR is, what is the basis for selection? That is. who gets selected? Commissioner Ralph Y. McClure is Chairman for Salt Lake County Commission, yet the sole Republican member gets selected. Likewise, the Republican former Mayor of Salt Lake City was selected. From the beginning of each mans political career, both Dunn and Garn have been, not just members but active members, in National Association of Counties and National League of Cities, both of which organizations are parts of 1313 Center and its network and both of which have three representatives each on ACIR. The plans of the 1313 Center network are laid out in the book by its founder. Louis Brownlow. which is entitled A PASSION FOR ANONYMITY PLANNING, SCHEDULING, AND CONTROLLING The American Management Association defines the functions of a manager as planning, scheduling, and controlling. As Metro or mentioned before Regionalism is a system of management, and its practitioners have plans for us, a schedule when the plans should be put into effect, and a method by which we are to be controlled. Of course, it does not have to be that way. We still have the right and the ability to practice local and we must do so. nt, STARTING NEW A SERIES During the coming weeks I plan to start a new series of articles. While I will not duplicate the work of Jo Hindman, which most often covers Metro and Regionalism on a National scale. 1 do plan to relate the national movement to Utah and the effect it will have on us. METRO IN CANADA On Wednesday. April 9 I discussed with a Canadian the impact of Metro on Ontario and Canada after its introduction in Toronto. He lives in a town people well of about 20.000 outside the metropolitan area of Toronto. All of Ontario has now been regionalized, and one obvious effect, he said, is that the school system of Ontario has been ruined. He told me that he led a fight in his the schools, area to and the fighters won. We also can win. and we must be informed to do so. During the next several weeks THE UTAH INDEPENDENT will work to form you. in- There is no doubt that many thousands of freedom-lovin- g Americans have shed many tears these past few days as we have witnessed the falling of the country of Vietnam to the hands of the communist butchers. Anyone who knows anything about the communists needs little imagination to visualize the horrible killing, raping and plundering that is taking place right now as the communists march to consume the rest of this small country. And of all the sadness which comes with this tragedy, the saddest part of all comes from the stark realization that it need never have happened. The fall of Vietnam was not inevitable it was planned. It was planned by some of those who pretended to be their protectors. It was planned by some in our own government who are either traitors or indescribably incompetent in handling our foreign affairs. REVIEW OF U.S. AID TO COMMUNISTS If the above medicine tastes a little strong for some, lets briefly review the sad history of the Vietnam war. For one thing, all during the war, the American fighting men in Vietnam were never allowed to fight to win. They were merely allowed to fight to die. Victory over the communist invaders was never an accepted goal, of our political leaders. Our pilots were never allowed to strike extremely critical targets. Furthermore, before and during the war right up to the present, our politicians have been sending to the communist bloc the goods with which to fight war. These goods, of course, have been shipped to the communist troops down the Ho Chi Minh trail to support the communist side of the war. The communists of North Vietnam could have never fought a war without the materiel which had its source of origin in the U.S. program. ists NEGOTIATED TO DEFEAT Peacemaker Henry Kissinger played a key role in the fall of Vietnam to the communists. He negotiated a situation which forced them into a most vulnerable position. Any sane person knows that the communists never intended to keep the peace treaty negotiated a few months ago. Any sane person knows that when the communists negotiate, they consider that what is theirs is theirs and what is everybody elses is negotiable. Yes, the blood of many thousands of South Vietnamese and also of fiftv thousand American men lost in Vietnam is on the hands of our politicians and especially on the hands of one Henry Kissinger. This is certainly a black day for America as well as the free world. But guilty as some in our government are in contributing to this black day, this writer wants the world to know that here is one American who will fight and oppose the communists and Communism in America or anywhere in the world with all the strength he possesses. And an invitation is extended to all to renew their determination to rid America and the world of the cancer of Communism. The mm Independent Salt Lake City.
