Show page 14 Friday, Davis County Dipper September 29, 1995 0 0 Clipper meet on Saturday The Eighth Annual Davis County Clipper Invitational cross country meet will be held Saturday morning at Layton City Park.: Junior varsity boy? will start at 9 a.m. followed by varsity boys and girls. Cross country teams from all Davis County schools will participate. The Davis boys have won the meet the past two seasons. Last year, Trent Hooper recorded die best time of the meet. He was followed by Aaron Anderson, Davis, Tom Wilding and Russell Wilding, both of Bountiful and Rob Kirkham of Woods Cross. ; Davis won the meet with 42 points, followed by Viewmont with .51, Bountiful 93 and Woods Cross 101. Viewmont boys won the team title from 1988 to 1992. Davis has won the past two years. Wildcats roll in girls soccer The Woods Cross soccer team remained unbeaten in Region 67 with a 6--0 triumph over Murray Tuesday. Celeste Collins and Katie Langdon scored two goals apiece. The Wildcats were scheduled to host West on Thursday and will travel to Cyprus to close out the region season on Tuesday. Bountiful 3, Skyline 1 The Braves remained tied for second place in Region 2 with a 3-- 1 victory over Skyline. Caroline Putz scored twice and Kristy DettOn added a goal. Bountiful played at Cottonwood Thursday and will challenge Viewmont Tuesday at Millcreek Junior High School for a piece of the Region 2 crown. Luke Morgan of Skyline averaged 76.7 to round out the top 9 averages from Region 2. Davis is the reigning state champion. At last years state tournament Viewmont finished third after a second place finish in 93. Bountiful tied for third last year. Other non Region 2 teams who could contend include Brighton. Layton and Northridge. Each of the top four teams from the region can use five players in the state tournament as opposed to eight in region tournaments. This means there will not be much room for error. The best four scores from each team are counted. Most of the players from the local schools are seniors and have a couple of years of state tournament experience behind them. It is a bumper crop for high school golfers in the south Davis County area and one of the teams Davis. Bountiful or Viewmont should be crowned state champions on Tuesday. -- |
