Show Davis County Clipper Friday, 7 September 29, 1995 page 0 0 Slide lecture to present art evaluation In conjunction with the final show celebrating its Twentieth Anniversary, the BountifulDavis Art Center is pleased to present Wabi, Fabi and Shibui: A New Approach in Evaluating Art, a slide lecture by Professor Emeritus Lennox Tierney of the University of Utah Art History Department. The current show. BDAC Art Faculty: Twenty Years of Asian art, icons and architecture. Traditionally, the Western method of evaluating art is in a technical or scientific manner, using composition, color, value, etc. to determine quality, while the Eastern philosophy is based purely on the emotional impact of a work of art. The .elements of the Japanese method are Wabi, Fabi and Shibui. Roughly translated, as there are no equivalent words in the English language, Shibui refers to using great reservation and modesty in creating a work of art. rather than creating a piece that is decorative or superficial. Wabi indicates that an item is beautiful due to exquisite workmanship and of Excellence, runs through Oct. 27, 1995. This lecture is free of charge and the public is invited to attend. With a vast knowledge of art history. Professor Tierneys specialty is in Asian arts. Through his travels, he has acquired a phenomenal collection of slides and photos fresh, new materials. Fabi refers to things that are beautiful based on use and age, such as a weathered copper roof, or a cathedral whose outer walls gain texture and shadings from years of exposure to the elements. Professor Tierney notes, It has been difficult and challenging for me to prepare this lecture, and it will be challenging to the audience, as we in the West are unaccustomed to viewing art simply on an emotion basis, without bringing the technical aspects into our judgement. Currently on exhibit, the Center offers BDAC Art Faculty: Twenty Years of Excellence. Featuring over 60 artists and educators from the past twenty years, this exhibition is a combination of fine art and history, with a profile of each of the participating individuals displayed with their work. Additionally, photos and newspaper articles from the past twenty years illustrate the significant role the BDAC has played in art education for Davis County and beyond. The exhibit was designed and installed by the Centers Founding Director, Anton Rasmussen Please join us for this exciting and educational evening with Professor Tierney on 29 September 1995, from 9 p.m. Light refreshments will be served, and the public is invited to attend free of charge. Reg. $ 0.00, SALE $7.99 Over the past several months Ive explained very briefly how the areas of dentistry listed above may be related to TMJ dysfunction. In the recent past many TMJ patients were treated surgically. We recommend very conservative treatment with surgery only as a last resort. Many patients are pain free and functioning properly within a short time after treatment begins. Others respond more slowly because of advanced joint destruction. Over 95 of our patients return to normal life routines with a tremendous improvement in the quality of life and health. TMJ Dysfunction follows a chronic pain syndrome pattern and often leads to depression, very little energy, and a continual struggle to cope with every day tasks that once were easy to accomplish. Over 90 of all headaches which are associated with increased tension and stress are TMJ related. This includes the small irritating" head pains and also most of the typical migraine" and cluster headaches. Come in for a TMJ consultation and you'N be surprised at what we can do to help you feel better. 415 Medical Drive Bountiful 298-181- 2 B-- 1 00 |
