The first Spanish speaking ward of the LDS Church in Davis County was recently organized and it meets in the Tabernacle. The branch was organized on Oct. 24, 1993. President of the branch is Robert Lamoreaux who had previously been called as president of a Spanish speaking branch in Arizona. His first counselor is Agusto Ampuro of Bolivia and his second counselor is Nery Samayoa, from Guatemala. The membership at this point is made up of people from eleven different countries, Hispanic Americans, returned missionaries and others interested in the Spanish language. The branch meets beginning at 1 1 a.m. with Priesthood and Relief Society; Sunday School at 12 and Sacrament at 1 p.m. The first Sunday when the branch was organized there were 50 members attending, the second Sunday countries. Project funds come from donations made by Church members and other sources. Much of the non- cash assistance is provided through items produced and donated by members of the Church. They include quilts, blankets, kits of items for newborns, hygiene and first aid kids, special bandages for burn and leprosy victims, clothing and other items. In addition, thousands of hours have been donated by many to produce the item. Scouting Visitors center now dedicated A newly completed visitors center at the St. George Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of y Saints was dedicated Oct. 30 by Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin of the Council of Twelve Apostles. The visitors center has 11,000 square feet of floor space and features exhibits focusing on Jesus Christ, families, the temple and the purpose of life. A replica of Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen's "Christus" is a focal point of the center. In addition, there are three theaters where visitors will have the option of viewing either of two films, "Our Heavenly Father's Plan" and "The True and Living God." In ante-rooleading to the theaters, visitors can contemplate the wondrous creations of God. The "Mountain Room features the red rock landscapes so prominent in. southern Utah and the "Universe Room" offers the visitor the feeling of viewing the earth from outer space. Latter-da- Billy Lawson of Centerville, Varsity Team 389, received his Eagle Sunday, Oct. 31. Billy has had outstanding scout leaders in West Bountiful, Beaverton, Ore., now in and Centerville. Billy wishes to thank all those who helped him attain his Eagle. For his Eagle project a nursery toy box was built for a local church. Toys were also collected, cleaned and donated for the toy box. Several local businesses donated building supplies for the toy box along with other donations from individuals. Many scout lead- ers helped Billy to complete his project.
