Show CUPPER Friday, September 10, 1993 17 Pursuits The Rocking Zebra holds grand opening By CHERIE HUBER The Rocking Zebra located in the "old fort" building at 107 North Main, Bountiful held its grand opening on Labor Day. The Rocking Zebra which will carry an exclusive line ol' clothing for infants from premature to 12 months is the creation of Lila Cazayoux and her sister Jodi Russell. The women first realized that there was a need for nice clothing for small infants when they started shopping for friends who were having babies. They noticed that there was not much more available than undershirts for small babies. To locate the quality and design they wanted, they found it was necessary to sew their own special clothing for their friends new babies. The idea has grown from the of ten knit tops made for a friend to a complete line of very attractive and very practical clothing in very small sizes. "Still, many of the styles are made to last in size for more than the three months by the time roll you roll down the cuffs. The clothing is also cut wide so the baby can grow. Or often you can add a lace skirt underneath the dress and leggings so the outfit can be used for a longer time," Cazayoux first set explains. "We also use a better quality knit, something thicker with what we think are nicer patterns," says Russell. "We made things that are a little more practical. Everything is pre washed too, so you know just how it will look after it has been washed, " Cazayoux adds. The two women designed and made all of the clothes they will be selling in the store. Later, as the business grows, they hope to find other women who will do the sewing for them. Some of the special items they carry include diaper covers with elastic legs and velcro closings, jumpsuits with velcro for the legs, a lot of two piece outfits that can be mixed and matched, bibs that look like wide ties with a velcro closing and all kinds of things a new parent would like to find but can't. The Rocking Zebra will also carry Stevens lotions and soaps because that is the brand doctors and "We think men are going to enjoy coming here too," says Russell. In fact both of their husbands will also work at the shop from time to time. "We want to offer quality products that make sense, for the good of the babies. We've done everything ourselves. People will have to come and look. This is not going Howard Stringham, to get just decide. The sisters will'depend heavily on their grandmother Lila Steward and their mother Margo Andrews who will also work in the store. "We plan to have a suggestion box to get new ideas from the customers. A lot of our best ideas have come from our grandmother's bridge club," says Cazayoux "The pattern for one sweater was taken from a baby sweater our grandfather wore 75 years ago. Its seams are finished with ribbon." Then there are beaded suede Moccasins styled after ones that Lila wore when she was little. The ultra suede will go through the wash and the shoes fasten with a drawstring so they fit securely from newborn on. The sisters plan to offer a lot of customer service, calling customers when something special comes in, like better stores used to do. The store carries things for babies but it is set up for comfortable shopping for mothers and fathers with beautiful Jodi Russell and Lila Cazayoux show off some of the items for sale at the Rocking Zebra located in the old fort building at 107 North Main in Bountiful.
