According to city recorder Linda Ross, the judges had asked for additional help with the counting of ballots but the request was denied. Previously the judges, who are appointed by the city council, received $40 per day regardless of the number of hours they worked. Now those judges working the city elections will receive an additional $10. , Polls open at 7 a.m. so the judges have to be set up and ready at that time. Votes are counted after the 8 p.m. closing time. After an election with a heavy turnout judges could spend as many as 17 or 18 hours by the time they finish counting the votes. They are making less than minimum wage, said Mayor Jerry Purdy. The council unanimously approved the increase at its meeting last Tuesday. ' it V Sf $ 900 West to be extended KAYSVILLE The city council has authorized the awarding of a construction contract for the extension of 900 W. Street. The bid is not just for the road construction but the installation of the utilities, said Cammack. The culinary water, storm drain and sewer will all be included. The road extension opens up six lots in the new Kaysville Business Park where Inc. will be the first user.
