And his expertise yearly carries him all over the globe, including a trip last year to the U.S.S.R. As a youth, his affinity for a shotgun lured him to the fields and woods near his home in Flint, Mich. Later his rapidly developing skill with clay targets helped pay for his schooling after a stint on the Air Force international Olympic trap shooting team. Now, Green, a school psychologist with the Ogden School District is one of the countrys top has Olympic trap shooters been for several years. And he shows every intention of continuing several more. He is one of twelve current members of the U.S. Olympic trap shooting team. Since moving to Clinton in 1977 Green has knocked down clay pigeons all over the world up and down the North and South American continents, across Europe, and last spring in the Soviet Union. Mrs. John, who now lives in Clearfield, cleared six feet on her third attempt of the height at the meet, held in Oklahoma City, Okla. In addition to her top-te- n national finish and her indoor honors, the jump also qualified Mrs. John for the outdoor finals, to be held at Eugene, Ore. in early June. Only two others had better jumps, coach Jim Blaisdell said. The difference in places was based on the number of misses. Angie Bradburn of Texas and Vicki Brosheim of Washington both had jumps of Mrs. John became the first woman athlete at Weber State to earn Division indoor track honors, and is the third ever woman in track at WSC. When she left the sport to give birth to her daughter, Charlise, Mrs. John had no plans of returning to jump. While I was pregnant, I never lege high phasizes stretching as a means of increasing the stride by an inch or two and in so doing, cutting down race times. Janets goal is to run the 5K in 24 minutes and Jeffs is to run it in 21 to 23 minutes. They are to run two times a week for 30 minutes straight the first two weeks, then increase that time to 35 minutes, then in two more weeks increase the time to 40 minutes. Then once a week the couple are to run for just 15 minutes and then run sprints of different lengths to help increase strength. The first week they are to d run two dashes, two d dashes and one 400100-yar- fifty-yar- 'tf - They then increase the number of sprints they do each week by one until they are running four 400s and five 100s and 50s. Im excited to try running the sprints," Janet said. However, when she first started working out again, the slender senior couldnt come within a foot of her previous best. It was hard, it was depressing, it was frustrating, said John about her early struggles. Obviously, her decision to return pleased Jim Blaisdell, Weber State womens track coach. He first recruited John out of Burley, Idaho, where she had placed second in the high jump behind the current national high school It (the return) was kind of a slow process as she probably explained, Blaisdell said. Paula is not a gifted athlete with a lot of natural talent, said assistant coach Dan Walker. Her ability to take what the coach says and put it into action is what has made her an She is very strong this year. I think it (having a baby) was more of an advantage that a disadvantage, said John. I think the biggest change for me is now that I am married I can concentrate more time and energy on high jumping. The sport does require concentration and John makes sure she is mentally ready to compete. At the national meet, we had 14 girls fly over said John.
