In a Lakeside Review Oscar contest over the past few weeks, residents played Hollywood movie mogul to choose their favorites among Oscar nominees for Best Picture, Best Actor and Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Best Director, Best Original Song, and Best Screenplay as a tiebreaker. Sometimes this reviewer agreed, sometimes I didnt. They rated The Last Emperor a cut above the rest of the field to take the top honor for Best Picture. The Last Emperor, which carries the highest number of Oscar nominations with nine, stars Peter O Toole and John Wolf. Placing second among contest participants in the same category tfas the box office hit Fatal Attraction, which was Moonfollowed by Broadcast News, struck and Hope and Glory But even with the publics support behind The Last Emperor, this critic still leans toward Broadcast News However, the publics opinion of who deserves the Best Actor Oscar isnt as easy to determine. I believe it will go to Holly Hunter from Broadcast News. The Best Supporting Actress category came down to the two ladies with the Anne Ramsey from same first name Throw Momma Off the Train and Ann Archer from Fatal Attraction. But watch for Oscar winner Olympia Dukakis of Moonstruck to capture the gold statuette.
